Rotorbrain, Mine came with the Petit AST installed. I'm guessing you're concerened about the cap at the filler neck ( by the engine ) because it was changed to a pressure cap, instead of just a cap with a seal. Is this correct? Also, I've read on this site about how different people do different things when they eliminate the AST ie how they reroute the cooling lines. Obviously you will have to get the lines back the way they were originally routed. I do know that the after market AST's simply take the place of the original plastic ones. Does this help? Tom

I was just curious why you would want to convert back to the AST?

There's much debate on this on both sides of the fence. If you search on AST you will find many arguments. Tom

Yeah, I've read all the threads about this issue. I had to go with the elimination kit due to installing the M2 medium SMIC. There was no space for the AST. I have not noticed any difference in terms of coolant problems or temps. But I am going to install the M2 radiator and get rid of that funky stock plastic radiator.

i have a koyo radiator and had read all the rumors about "trapped air". i just want to have a fail safe. my engine has 90k miles on it and i just want to make sure it is safe. i cant afford to rebuild right now. thats why i want to go back. . . and i have seen pictures of high performance cars with them.

Yeah, that's my thing. I've seen an AST on the 787...I think my puny 1.3 L could survive with it in.

Keep the AST since it adds approximately 1.3 quarts or so of more coolant and we all love more coolant now don't we?

ast helps push bubbles to the top and releases them thru the cap.all big japanese tuners use them on their cars even ones that came without one.what i wanna know is the ast made a special way on the inside?or is it just a bottle with nipples?

i think its just a bottle with nipples located just right. kinda like a oil catch can or something.

can somebody post some pics of how to route the set up? i have never personally taken a good look at it and i just need to know how to run the hoses. thanks.

the bottom nipple goes to the bottom of the radiator.the side nipple goes to the thermostat body.the top nipple by the cap goes to the overflow tank.

Hey, I have a Micah AST all aluminum with 2 chambers and bleed orifice etc.. Once I find the right expansion sized bottle from a Beemer, VW or a Toyota, I'm going to eliminate my Alumninum AST.

My reasoning for doing this? The expansion tank on these cars perform the same job as our AST only 10 times better and allows you to check the fluid level visually. Also, it'll allow me to get rid of my ovrflow tank.
