actually there is a plug and play for the E8 haltech you can get for the fd3s no wiring needed just plug in the ecu where yours would normally go and start to tune

Ver 2.0 maybe similar to SAFC NEO for the commander controller or possibly dash mounted.
I think my point was missed? If all new cars have ODBII then the current PFC will not work. You would have to swap ECU's for smog and risk blowing your motor. There will have to be a newer version made as my reference to my truck above. So the question is, will earlier models be discontinued? I would think they would keep producing untill the generation is replaced (4th gen RX7) or untill sales get too low.

Hey DaiOni,

Thanks for the info. As per the info I gathered, they've also discontinued the PFC's for the FC3S (AP Engineering one I believe), as well as the PFC for the '96 - '98 FD3S. The distinct word I received was they're sequentially discontinuing a ton of them (as you've shown), and thus it would be prudent to get the FD PFCs while they're still available. That's all I was stating

I'm hoping they're just discontinuing the *old* ones. All the Pro and AP Engineering versions were the old PFC that used the removable ROM. The '96-98 FD was the first PFC they made for the FD - serial number FD3S with no number after it.

If that's the case, we'll be OK. But, it's still a good idea to get one - even if they keep making them for a zillion years, your FD wants one NOW .

LOL I hope so too Dale. It would be very foolish IMO for Apexi to d/c the best selling ECU on the market today. Just thought I'd relay the information I got from reliable sources. Whether I'm right or wrong, ya can't complain about the price I managed to get 'em at

Well, I called Apexi USA today and asked them point blank what's going on. They said that they have very little knowledge at this time as to what will and will not be discontinued in the coming future. They said that Apexi Japan has ben VERY slow in releasing any information to Apexi USA and that to date they only know that some Skyline and Honda versions will be discontinued. They haven't heard anything else. When I asked the guy for any guesses on the PFC for the FD based on what is going on within the company, he said that he couldn't comment because Apexi USA just doesn't know right now. He said that Apexi USA is very frustrated with Apexi Japan because they are being very slow and secretive in releasing any info on what is going on. He did say that something is definetly going on at Apexi Japan with the PFC but Apexi USA isn't being told what's happening. The guys was truly frustrated.

So..... there you go....something else to muddy the waters with.

Like Dale has pointed out, the PFC is awesome, and at Ramy's price, it's a good deal. Unfortunately, I can't afford one right now without pulling some strings and that's what prompted me to call Apexi USA and get it right form the horses mouth.

fsae_alum, thanks for sharing the info. But I coulda told ya Apexi USA would be clueless from the getgo That's typically how it goes. There are usually only a handful - if that many - of guys in the US who have keen knowledge of what's going on in the Japanese sector - the only sector that counts. To get around this, I get all my info directly from Japan.

My sources told me that this "major change" w/ Apexi Japan and the PFC is a move to d/c them. Given there has been no official announcement to replace them, there's been a panic/frenzy to get 'em while you can. Would I be surprised if Apexi came out w/ a newer version? Not really. But would I be surprised if there was a long wait period in which NOTHING was available? Not in the least...and that's one of the worst case scenarios if you ask me. That's when the price of a PFC skyrockets to $2K, like Jason mentioned earlier in this thread

Ramy.....I hear ya.... just trying to not have to bite that bullet right now and that's why I called. It wan't that the guy at Apexi USA was dumb just that Apexi Japan is keeping them in the dark. The guy was pretty knowledgable but he just didn't have the answers to the question at hand.

I agree that it's a good buy......

It's been rumored for a while that Apex (aka apexi) have had financial issues - which may be the reason behind the rebranding (apexera) and explosion of cut-price PFCs on the japanese mail-order market (below US$600).

It wouldn't be surprising for the version IV (96-98) units to go first, if they are discontinuing, as it represents the smallest % of the cars out there (I-III being the largest, and with the version V unit also being compatible, if unofficially, with version VI).

In any case, if you don't have a PFC, and need one - you don't need any excuses to buy one ASAP, they're gold.

I'm bringing this thread back to life only to share some additional news w/ you guys.

Apexera (the parent company of Apexi) is currently in the preliminary process of declaring bankruptcy in Japan. It's unclear what the outcome of this declaration will be, but for the time being, Apexera and it's respective subdivisions are continuing to operate as normal. Word is, the other subdivisions (not Apexi) are the largest contributing factor to this current financial state.

This news explains Apexi's sudden discontinuation of numerous Power FC models, as well as their price hike as of January 1, 2007. This is also why I was confident enough to post the thread in the first place. Rest assured, I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as this progresses, or until Apexera makes an official statement.

No games, no rumors, no hustle. Just the 411 from JDM man

Due to popular demand, I'm now gathering interest on running a GB on the Datalogits as well (which are IN STOCK NOW!) See here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?p=6661398 and spread the word!

Thanks,

Update: I've been told that from the end of March/beginning of April, Apexi will be continuing to conduct business as usual, with little or no delays.

What does this mean in terms of the discontinuation of the PowerFC. Is it going to be saved?

Have no idea. It's been like pulling teeth as of late to get Power FCs. But I'm told that'll also improve by the end of March/beginning of April. I'll wait and see how it pans out before calling it.

Good info and it's more rare in Japan for a company to file bankruptcy than in the US. They must have had some dismal numbers for that to happen.

Yea you're right Tim. From what I heard, Apexera's looking to qualify for government assistance. I'm guessing that's what's keeping 'em afloat.

Yea right lol. At least for now, it's harder to secure a large supply, the wait is longer, and the price is higher. As such, that's reflected in my new asking price on my website. I can run a GB a bit lower than that price, but def. not at the price the GB was at.

Plus, the point of the GB was to help the forum guys get the PFCs in case they were going to be suddenly discontinued (which has indeed happened for SEVERAL cars). Now that Apexera is claiming things will stabalize within a month or so, there's no urgency... Besides, it's not like I was making much off the GB, esp. considering the enormous amount of work that went into it... You wouldn't believe how complex and how much work goes into the GBs...

Speaking of your website, I just went to it and I got the old layout. Is your new layout temporarilly off line? I don't even see PFCs listed on there right now.

The new layout was never supposed to launch. It's nowhere near finished. I'm building a database to include a plethora of JDM manufacturers and their respective parts

Oh and the PFC is still there... http://www.fdnewbieimports.com/Backup/product.php?n=36

Thanks,
