A'PEXi I-Mobisses System - Control car through cellular phone

I was reading Super Street mag, March 05 and I came across the Apexi I-Mobisses system. This system claims to be able to control your vehicle through your cellular phone. You can start the car, arm the alarm, lock the doors, etc etc.

I checked out APexi's US site... www.apexi-usa.com and I cannot find a single bit of information on it. I am not sure if this is just now showing up in Japan, and it will be awhile before the U.S. version is out... or whatever the deal is.

I know I want some more info on this, it sounds pretty badass. This is going to lead the way to getting your ride jacked by someone who works well with a cellphone, haha.

If anyone has any info, post it all for all of us.

THanks,
-Darren-

Apexi Japan has had the system for some time now - hit up their homepage. http://www.apexi.co.jp

Does sound pretty neat.

Probably have to pay a service fee to implement here.. I think it needs an activated SIM to live in the car.. so that it can send you sms messages over a cell network. In Europe (and I'm guessing Japan) you can pick up a prepaid SIM and just stick it in.. GPRS & SMS is free in many areas over there..

But it sounds neat.

DEI, Crimstopper and a few other alarm companies allow the same basic thing, start, window down, alrm arm, parking lights on, etc. all through the computer, you can be in thailand and start your car in california from a computer or cell phone, around $500 for the unit and monthly fees

Great. That's all I need is for someone to dial a wrong number and my car begins to act like it's possessed!

Or for your cellphone to break/die, and your car is down indefinitely

I think it's either cobra or viper ALREADY having this out just like the apexi. And I imagine that theirs would be alot cheaper than the apexi one.

i dont see the point.... great... now i can start my car while 8 blocks away while im walking back to it (so its warmed up when i get there)... then i get there... no car. oops, some car thief was walking down the street, and the ******* car starts FOR him as he's walking by... guy must be thinking "wow... this must be my lucky day... i dont even have to hotwire it... just break a window and go". better yet, you remotely start the car, and accidently press '5' which then lowers the windows, unlocks the doors, and makes him a fillet minion while pouring him a glass of fine merlot.

IMO, this is the most retarded thing i have ever heard of. so what if it has a feature that calls your phone and tells you your car is getting jacked.... what are you gonna do about it? run out of your meeting (or leave your fryer station, for those that have just graduated college ) run 4 blocks to the parking garage, sprint up 6 flights of stairs, find the guy patiently waiting for your arirval, and bust a cap in his *** with your pulse rifle from half life 2, and save the princess and your good friend yoshi? come on guys.... how is this a practical tool to protect your car???

its a gimmic... like the camera phones that will take pictures, movies, record sound, do AIM, have a day planner... but the ******* phone cant make a call cause you cant even get any freakin reception (or when you do you get the "all circuits are busy" message).

someone please defend this device (or camera phones for that matter)... i wonder why someone would buy this thing??? -heath

LOL, sorry but thats the funniest thing i've heard in a long while. I know the cell phone is atleast true!! I've had 3 damn camera phones and all of them sucked, i'd keep loosing calls and everything. Went out and bought a cheap phone, and the damn thing works like a charm, go figure. Anywho back on topic here, I think its a waste of money, and just another thing that can go wrong. Personally I think products like these just make people that much more lazy. Really, it isn't that damn hard to walk out the door and start your car people!

Heath,

Just FYI, remote start starts the engine, but doesn't let you move the car w/o the key. I don't know if FD keys have electronic tags on them or not to enable ignition kill, but if they do, unless the theif has your key, he can't move the car (via the engine...). He can always drop it in neutral and roll her away tho

About the system paging your phone, my friend dropped a wad of change in this remote GPS system (which gets NO reception if you park under a tree, mind you) because in the event his car gets stolen, he can remotely turn off the engine, lock the doors, mess w/ the windows, etc etc. Basically, you can still control the car even though it's not there. Of course, this would do you no good if your car was being towed away...

Needless to say, I wouldn't bother w/ all these electronic gimmics, because at the end of the day, the best protection is you using your head and parking your car close and in your plain line of view. If you think the area is shady, don't park there. End of story.

AMEN to that! yeah, if a car thief wants you car badly enough they WILL find a way to take it. back in the day (when i had a 95 Mustang GT convertable.... haha i feel embarased even SAYING that i owned a V8 ) i parked it with the doors locked, alarm armed, etc etc in my DRIVEWAY. i come out the next morning, no car, no signs that anyone was even there... no broken glass, NOTHING!!

the police found the car a week later, completely stripped on the street one town away. i still put alarms on all my cars, but that only gives me a false sense of security. the only thing that i could think of that would actually get your car back is LO-Jack... but i havent bothered looking into it yet. (maybe when the 20b is running )
