All of the fastest racers use stock 3piece seals. Ray Wilson pushes 650rwhp on stockers. Demetrios K pushes the same power on stockers. Last week I ran 27lbs of boost on "stock" apex seals. They seal the best and make the best power, hands down. Don't waste your money on anything else.
When an apex seal breaks, it can only exit through the exhaust (turbos) or get stuck in the housings. If it's a big chunk that breaks, it will damage the turbos. I just broke 2 apex seals and my turbos are fine, luckily they were very small pieces and went straight through the turbos.
An apex seal will break cause of detenation, old and worn out, or a carbon buildup has broken of in the motor.
3mm seals are obviously thicker and can handle detenation a little better, but if the car is tuned good you shouldn't have that problem.

apex seal has to be strong and slippery thats why they are made out of a aluminum and graphite, the 3 mm seals will not rub more they are not 3 mm tall they are 3 mm wide has nothing to do with how work the housing is , if its worn get a new one.

They also have ceramic seals... VERY VERY VERY $$$$.. $200 per seal. Do the math. Don't ask me if they are worth it. I wouldn't even waste my time investigating them because I would never $pend that much on seals.

2. You can usually tell if you have apex seal damage if you vacume hovers up and down at idle around 10inches of vacume. Normal is from around 14-18inches of vacume. Or you can do a compression check to really be safe.
3. I already answered that one.

hmm this is weird. what does everybody that is making this kind of power do about the rocking action that takes place in the seal groove due to the use of 3 piece seals. the two piece seals are supposed to keep that wear from happening along with the fact that mazda oem seals arent that good at breaking in with used rotor housings. the aftermarket seals (hurley) use a softer metal that allows the seal to seat sooner and not scar the housings as bad.
