Apex Intake Installation Problems

Ok, I just installed my new power intakes.

Now my primary's won't boost past 5 at the transition it goes to about 7 then it boosts to 12.

So its: 5-7-12.

How can I even this out?
I used to go from a 10-8-11 to this.

I am pretty sure its just a tuning issue but I don't know how to tune my PFC. If I start flooring the car, I get a few backfires sometimes when I am flooring it. Nothing really big, but I never had this before.

I am guessing with the new intakes, I am getting more air in the car then the car is used too? Or maybe the restrictor pill is blocking air from going in so its running more rich?

I don't know. I just need a bit of advice.

could you maybe have knocked off a vacc line like the pre- control or WG actuators or the ones that go to the check valve and such. They are in the area you were working. Maybe one got hit while you were working. I don't think just putting the intakes on will change the way it runs with a PFC.( i still have stock ECU with the same intake)

Well I have a few other mods.

I will look into the Vac lines though.

The thing is, I figured if any one of them is loose, I would have no boost?

The intake should have nothing to do with your boost pattern, unless one of the filters is horribly clogged. But that should be noticeable just by looking at it. Did you accidentally leave something in one of them? Or perhaps put the pill in the wrong line (it's supposed to go to the airpump.)

can't find the insturction to prove it but i am 99.9% sure that you are incorrect that the restrictor goes to the air pump. It goes in the 1 inch hose that goes to the ACV valve on the Intake manifold. Honestly I'm not starting **** thats just how I remember the instructions saying to do it. I just looked again at the one in the garage. It's in the line going to the ACV. Please prove me wrong if i am,so i can correct my info. Thanx P.S. I checked the apexi webpage but could not find the documentation on the intake.

If the WG line is off it will basically just be operating off the WG springs pressure. Around 7 psi. The pre-control will do funny things as well. I believe i remember seeing spikes, not sure though. it was a while ago. I think 911gt2 said it already but did you by chance leave a rag or paper towel in the primary turbo inlet hole? Also try switching the restrictor to the air pump to see what happens.( I'm curious now)

restrictor pill should go to the airpump, and should block no air from your turbos. are you sure you installed them correctly?

Hmm, funny. I'm 99% sure it does go in the line to the airpump. My directions are somewhere at home, but next time I'm there I'll have a look.

I just wanted to make sure that I don't screw up my car by putting the pill somewhere it doesn't belong.

However, I will try to put it in the pump.

Just talked to Jason at the Rx7 store; The results: I'm right and your wrong !!! Just joking! He did however say that it does not go to the air pump and that it does go to the ACV in the 1 inch hose from the intake filter to the Intake manifold.( the metal pipe along the side of the LIM,) Hope this helps clear things up

Lets not be modest here. I'm wrong, I'll admit it. . You know I'm still gonna check my directions once I get home though.

I have same setup and get fine boost pattern. And there are no pills in my intake system

I wonder how you even get secondary turbo to work if you only get 5psi on primary. I thought it was 6 or 7psi needed to start spooling the secondary.

You probably knocked some line. Take it apart and have a look around.

Honestly I think its the pill because if I am reading it correctly.

I am going to take the pill out and test it out.

Also I am a bit confused. So it doesn't go to the air pump and to the one to the UIM?

I am so confused. =(

My pill is in the hose to the air pump and I boost fine - well cept for a little spike at low rpm full throttle

do a search there are a few threads that say the pill should be in the air pump. something about a moo noise iirc...

ACTUALLY, if you knock off the line to the wastegate, there will be nothing pushing on the spring, and you will boost until you let up or blow up. Fortunately, it looks like we can rule that one out!

i dont think that its the restrictor pill because i left mine out, because i couldnt figure which one to put it in, so it was out the first few times i drove with the new intake on, it ran fine, just made a funny noise. i searched on here, and found which 1 it goes in, still rus the same, just without the funny noise.
now as far as it being in the wrong hose, i dont know if that would cause a problem or not. take it out, and run the car without the pill, see if that makes a diffrence.
have i confused everyone enough, because ive confused the hell out of myself...

I agree with the above statement. I don't think the restrictor is the cause of the problem and we are going in the wrong direction by debating it. I don't think having it in the wrong hose will cause your problems. It's Got to be something so easy you'll kick yourself when you find it. For what it's worth my air pump doesn't moo. I just have a breather filter on it.

Well I ran it without the pill and it runs the same. Weird pattern.

I only get about 5-6 pounds of boost on the primary. Like turbos really won't come on till about 4000RPMs.

I hate the lag, I never did and I will most likely never will.

I have checked about everything. Re-installed the filters and it still screwy.

I checked for some unplugged vaccum lines but they all seem intact. I mean KDR did the new vacc job and they made sure they will stay on with little zip ties.

I dont know if anyone has read my original post, but it BACKFIRES during WOT towards redline.

No smoke, nothing out of the ordinary. I just don't get boost, and it seems like something isn't burning up there.

You think I should reset my PFC to basemap and see if that helps?

If so, how would I do that?

I wouldn't go to the ECU yet... Are all the vacc lines hooked to the BOV and the air bypass(the other bov looking thing) I don't know if you unhooked those to change the intake . Does your commander say/show any bad things happening with the injectors or boost sensor? Sorry not too familiar with the PFC on the twins. I guess as a last resort you could always put the stock airbox back in to eliminate the intake change as a cause.( Alot of work to get the same result i think) Maybe throw some new plugs in it for ***** and giggles!!!

Argh, I would hate to put that nasty thing back on.

I don't know what I would be looking for with the PFC. Should I be somewhere when I look at it?
