Anything I should know before taking the water pump body off of the engine?

Well i believe my gasket between the water pump body and the front housing of the engine is shot. I am in the process of ordering a new one and tearing things down to get to it. Is there anything particularly difficult or risky about taking the pump body off of the engine? Any precautions I should take or problems to avoid? Who has done this already?

Thanks in advance! Don't want to get in over my head!

Are you sure it is just the gasket? Water pumps have a "weeper hole" facing down just behind the pulley that leaks on purpose so you know when the bearing and/or seals are going. If you are in fact seeing small dribbles of water down the front of the pump you probably need a new pump; not just a gasket.

Actually, when the system pressurizes after shutdown, I am getting a hiss/spewing of air/coolant from directly under the alternator. So it's definately not weeping, more like a pressurized spraying. I already replaced the small hose running behind the alternator and it's coming from directly under the alternator anyway. Pretty sure it is coming from the connection between the water pump body and the engine.

Any advice on getting the water pump body (not just the water pump) off?

yup, there isn't a lot of slack in the lines to make it easy to remove.

Guys, he's talking about the water pump HOUSING, not the water pump itself.

Lotta stuff to take off to get to it. but not a big deal.
And like the other guy's said, don't pinch the oil lines when you put it back together.
