Question Anyone thinking of putting an RX-8 engine into your 3rd-gen fd?

As title states - if you could put an rx-8 engine into a 3rd-gen rx7, it would certainly get rid of all those engine probs... plus you'll have a warrenty! Who has thought about this when the rx8 comes about???

JK.

It would be extremely expensive.

Yea, but the hp standard is gonna be more (i think?) and could it be cheaper than having to buy things for the current engine and modding it to get to the same speed?
In the long run, i reckon it could be a good idea...

The engine isnt built for a turbo so if u wanna mod it i think it's gonna be tough to get it working good. Plus the RX-8 isn't even out yet so getting hands on an engine will rpobably cost 1/3 of the RX-8's price.
But this is just me guessing. I've never done or thought about putting any new Rotary engine into my car.

humm how could that engine be slower... it is NA and comes with 280hp. Stock rx7 with twins has 250.. THe new renisis engine is amazing.. i think it would make for a great drop in. But i'm no expert. I'm suer some crazy aussy or japanese guy will do it... matter of time.

The RX8 will come w/ 250 hp (and very little torque). How will that be better than the 255 hp 13b, or cheaper than LEAVING the original motor in?

That's the point that keeps me thinking about a streetport when the engine goes (probably due in the next 1-2 years). Kinda like the S2000 with 240 peak HP, but like 140-150 ft-lbs torque ... the numbers don't speak well.

Plus, how much work is it going to be to mount the turbos and such? That can't be cheap.

I wouldnt think of it.....Thiink of if you needed parts. I dont know how manyrx-8's they are planning to bring over, but iinstalling them, finding mods that will work whit them this early, and getting replacement parts may make you beg for the good old 13b. It would be original though

why on earth would you have a warranty?
besides, we dont know what the mounts look like, it might be easier to do a 20b

Not to mention, you'd kick yourself endlessly when/if they released the Mazdaspeed turbo Renesis a year after you spent oogles of $$ and time with the NA Renesis. :P

The Renesis N/A engine will be what.....168 ft. lb. of torque? Compared to 217 of stock FD.

I think I will keep the 13BREW, thanks!
