Anyone swap out antennas?
Anyone swap out antennas?
I had a S2000 and am thinking about swaping out the motorized antenna for the short black rubber one that came on the S2000. Anyone ever try this?
Thanks
Thanks
The motorized antenna is only for AM reception. The FM antenna in on the rear
window!
Since I do not listen to AM, when I had my car repainted; I had them pull it and weld metal into the hole, and now my fender is unblimished.

That may be true on the stock system, I dont know, but you wont get any fm stations in my car if that antenna isnt plugged in, not to mention I know my head unit dosent have two antenna ins on it. What would be the purpose of putting 2 antennas on the car?
Anyways to answer the first post, I swapped antennas to a short black antenna from pepboys when my power one broke, but I went back to it after a couple weeks, its like a tumor on the car.

I have, only thing is when your doing a buck twenty it bends, which I think is hilarious if u see it, OLD pics done a whole lot since then, but still have the antenna.

You may want to try the one off the Honda S2000 which is only around 6 inches long and sturdier than the one in your picture. It can hold up to 120 (been tested to 135 my me) easily.
I had a rubber replacement antenna hooked up to my aftermarket head unit and the reception was horrible. I hooked up the head unit to the rear windshield antenna and the reception is good. There are 2 female antenna plugs on the passenger side below where the radio is if you follow the antenna wire from the head unit. The big plug is for the motorized antenna and the small one is for the rear windshield antenna. The big plug is a common Motorola plug and the small plug is uncommon and hard to find. I used a Schotche universal antenna adapter and had to flatten a bump on the closest fitting plug to get it to plug in and then cut off and taped up all the unnecessary plugs. It's ugly but nobody is going to see it.

There have been other threads where people's stock motorized unit failed and they didn't want to spend the bucks to replace it (odd, these same guys will drop $2,000 on an intercooler...lol!) and went with the small rubber ones. <shrugs> whatever floats your boat but I think it REALLY detracts from the car's appearance.

Then you hooked up to the wrong one!
The stock 2-antenna arrangement was a "diversity" system that allowed some radio noise cancellation. I'm surprised to hear that the hatch glass antenna is adequate for a decent signal, but that's good to know. That said, I just replaced my antenna mast for ~$25 when my antenna stopped working.
