Knock Sensor

I read that with a PFC, the knock sensor isn't used. The reason I'm asking is all the "black goo" inside my knock sensor has all melted out and is probably no longer good so I need to know if it's necessary to replace it. TIA.

Correct in that the PFC doesn't use it to dial out timing like the stock ecu does. I still think it's a good idea to replace it since on your car, you'll be able to tell what your average knock numbers are and tell if you've got a bad tank of gas, bad timing map, etc.

Thanks Tim. Also just wondering if the sensor still functions is it possible to refill it with some sort of material like resin or epoxy? The least expensive I've found was $165, so if I can manage without it, that money could go toward something else (like new injectors).
