Anyone see the do-it-yourself IC sprayer?
I got the new SCC a little while ago, and they give pretty decent instructions on how to make a do-it-yourself IC sprayer for $3.08. Not too bad. Has anyone here ever tried this? And how well did it work?

It's not that hard really. The hardest part is how you want your switch ran i.e. with a heat sensor in the IC or manual(on/off). The most expensive part is probably the relay.
A friend of mine tried it on his 91 DSM. He used the reservior and pump from his rear windshield washer sprayer, ran lines up to the IC, and bought some type of sprayer to get the water onto the IC. He just had a switch to turn it on and off, but he's still planning on wiring up some sort of pressure sensitive thing to turn it on at 8psi, and off if it dips back below 3 psi.
He had no way to measure intake temps, but it did spray water onto the IC and it cost very little. Cool idea IMO.

A pressure switch on an IC sprayer wouldnt be the most effective way to do it. Maybe if the IC heat soaks the instant boost hits a certain level but that isnt the case, and the IC wont cool down the instant boost drops below a certain level either. A temp switch would be alot more effective than a boost switch. I would wire in a manual switch as well, it is good to have final say in whether it comes on or not. You dont want it spraying in the event you run out of water etc.
i have the watter sprayer on my m2 ic and the radiator. i used 2 winshield wiper pumps out of a 240osx. wired 2 switch for both ic and the radiator. also used a 1 gallon fuel tank as the wtter reivoir. it works.

I actually have removed the front wipers and rear since I NEVER use them and get tired of replacing the sun rotted blades every year. Damn, its only going to get to 68F today......I'll have to put a long sleeve shirt on.
Brrrr. Chilly.

I used a hobbes switch to turn on the washer pump. You can get them at Napa. They don't tell you, but they are adjustable. Just remove the rubber plug in back. I added a pressure tank ( a liquid soap bottle !) and used an extra mister nozzle to slowly bleed down the pressure. I set the pressure switch for about 4 psi. My intake temps stay below 130 F, even in the phoenix summer. You can get an indoor/outdoor thermometer at Radio Shack and hang the probe just past your IC to measure temps.
