Anyone running 17x9 and 17x10?

I would post this in the susp. wheels forum but that place is like a ghost town.

The wheels I like and will order in the next few days don't come in half sizes so I have to do 9's in front and 10 in back.

Will this cause any problems? Tire size? Do I need anything to accomadate for it?

I will be doing coilovers but not immediatly.

I ran 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 without coilovers with no issues...offset was 37 (f) and 45 (r)...I really depends on the offset and how close the rim goes to the suspension...for instance my new wheels are 18x9 and 18x10 for offsets of 50 for both...this offset moves them closer to my suspension components and I am going to 2.5 coilovers and m2 trailing arms and toe-links for the extra clearance.

It depends on the wheel offsets. I would think that 9 x 17 up front woud require at least 45 mm of offset. For maxiumum clearance from the fender lip, 50 mm. The rears give you more flexibility...42 to 48 mm should be fine. Tire size for the 9 x 17 fronts will depend on the offset. If <48 mm, 245/40-17 would be a safe bet. If 50 mm, 255/40-17. The rears are more flexibile. The limiting factor at the rear position is overall tire diameter. I wouldn't go much taller than 25.4 inches. Most 265/40-17s are about that tall. My big wheels/tires are strictly race, and Hoosier race tires have shorter overall diameters, which is why I can run 245/45-17 and 275/40-17s, on my SSR Comps size 8.5 and 9.5 x 17s.

So which wheels did you end up with? CCWs?

Thanks alot guys. I plan on running 245 and 265. I'm not positive about the offsets yet.

I think I've decided on the Volk GT-A's in silver. Pretty much what I was looking for and within my price range.

I know someone with very little mileage on those wheels (less then 1000 miles in sure, since he fragged a tranny and its been down), in 17s - can't remember exact width.

He's selling his car, and may part out the wheels and tires (he's got some STICKY A032Rs on there, 275/sumthin/17s and 235/sumthin/17s). If you want me to ask, email me.

The 17x10 only comes in a +41 offset! Will that rub?

17x9 has a +37, +41, and +44.

9 x 17 with 44 mm offset should be ok with 245/40-17. Left front corner MIGHT rub the fenderlip at full lock.

10 x 17 with 41 mm should ok with a 255/40-17. Going wider might rub the rear fender lip. That offset with a 10-inch wide wheel is bit positive, and would stick out too far for my taste, but clearancewise, they should be ok. FWIW, Fikse uses a 44 mm offset for their 10 x 17 application, so 3 mm shouldn't be a big deal.

The Volk GT-wheels are pretty but heavy compaired to the other volks. The GT-line use a cast rim section for the inside lip so that's where the extra weight is and that's also why they're still a reasonable cost

If gsrsol plans to use the new wheels for the street only, heavier usually means STRONGER. Street-only wheels need to be strong enough to take the daily punishment of being run on public roads. Most public roads are not as smooth as a racing surface, so stronger wheel rims will decrease the chances of bending a wheel rim if you run over chuckholes. Note that 1-pc forged wheels are not repairable, if you bend a wheel rim. You will need to replace the entire wheel. Multi-piece forged wheels have an advantage in this regard. The wheel center is salvaged, while the rim halves, are replaced. This will be much cheaper than buying another NEW wheel! So heavier is NOT NECESSARILY a bad thing for the STREET, especially if you're considering 1-pc Volks or SSRs!

I knew there had to be a reason why they were cheaper. Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. Honestly I don't care about weight, they will be 100% for the street and I doubt they will be heavier then the OZ's already on it.

Dont worry about it...rim sections(lip) are not the heavy part of the wheel anyways...the center section is

The new Volks will still be lighter than GSRSOL's OZs! Those are boulder-heavy! 35 lbs perhaps? Extremely strong though!
