Anyone relocate thier battery to the bin???
I'm looking for some info on relocating the battery to the storage bin. Without buying a damn $ kit what all is needed and how big a pain in the *** is it??? I'm running a small Honda battery but dont think its small enough to fit. What battery you guys running that will fit in the storage bin and how much was it???
Thanks,
STEPHEN

STEPHEN
My local track doesnt require that but they are pretty easy to get along with. I cant see why that would be necessary unless you had a dragster with the 2 terminals outside the car in the back.
Anyway, anyone relocate thiers without buying a kit? What did you need and what all batteries will fit???
Thanks,
STEPHEN

I have a WestCo Miata battery and I cut or altered absolutely nothing to get it and the wires in there. It's held in place by my little secret elves that I won't reveal the identity of publicly. We call this being "spayshul."

I just did this and went to the extreme...cut out the bottom of the bin and fabricated a box to bolt the battery to the chassis and then vented it (for racing purposes). I should have pics sometime soon

I purchased the BMK from www.n-tech.net. When I moved the battery to the trunk I removed the cell itself from the metal box/bracket. It was small enough that I was able to remove the entire rear shelf/bin trim piece and slide it INSIDE, between the outer wall of the trim and the inner wall of the bin. The cables are routed underneath the carpeting. The bin retains it's full usage (collecting junk) as well.
It's strange...how do BMW M3's run at the track? They all have their battery in the trunk from the factory.

yes, optima will need to cut th ebin, doing a braket that pass over the battery is nothing complicated.
i did it and am very pleased with it.
check here, i have a couple of pics. The bracket wasn't made at that time.

Hmm, well I really dont want to hack up my bin. I have the tools but just cant bring myself to cut my car. I wont even get a spoiler cause i dont want to drill holes in the deck lid haha
I'm really interested in the "noninvasive" ways of doing it.
RX7TT95 - I'm not sure i understand exactly where you mounted the battery location wise. Is it inside the trim piece between the 2 bins??? How do you get to the battery? How did you secure it so that it doesnt move or rattle around???
So far the batteries you guys are using that fit without hacking is the......
WestCo Miata battery
Hawker battery
and maybe the BMK from www.n-tech.net which i THINK is the Hawker battery but could be wrong.
Which one of these batteries do you think is strongest and what was the best price you guys could find???
Has anyone every looked for another place to mount the battery? What about the trim piece that you remove to replace brake lights, is there any room in there for a very small battery???
What did you guys use for cables???
Sorry for all the questions but maybe all of us thinking together can come up with a ideal solution thats pretty easy, clean, out of the way but still accessible, and doesnt require hacking.
Thanks,
STEPHEN

I have expereince with the Hawker genesis battery.
It is a very compact battery not as small as the one in the N-tech BMK kit. but it is about half the size of the OEM battery.
The problem with it is that it dies within 1 year. It may be my fault for not recharging the battery frequently but I have gone through two of these batteries within 2 years. They are not cheap either at about $120 although I did get the first one at about $90.
I don't really recommned them

What about the N-tech battery, anyone know how the life span on it is??? It cost $160, i'd hate for it to not last a year. How long have you guys been running it and how does it do in the winter?

When you move the battery to a rear bin inside the car I suggest that you consider two factors. First get the largest battery that will fit in the bin without the need to modify the bin. Second, get a dry cell battery that is totally sealed and does not need venting.
I believe the battery that fits these factors best is the Hawker Odyssey PC 925. Since it is completely sealed and doesn't need venting, it can be turned on its side allowing it to fit in the bin without any cutting or modifications.
The PC 925 costs $105.95 at this link:

Thanks man, thats some good info. I guess I need to double check and make sure its going to fit before buying it.....unless you already have. Either way a double check wont hurt anything.
Anyone have any info on that N-tech battery? What are the cca? What kind of life span does it have? Thier website says its a deep cycle sealed dry cell battery so I imagine it'll be ok in the storage bin. Also at 3" wide I might can find a real creative place to hide it. Maybe behind some paneling or something instead of using up my storage space.
Thanks,
STEPHEN

Do other dragstrips require that?
