Anyone paint the 99 front Lip

This is probably a bad idea but this is actually a repaint as the previous painted it.

I need to match my FRP side skirts. Any one have a good idea as to what color is best to match?

What kind/color are your side skirts. I've never seen anyone have much luck painting the OEM lips and have it stay nice.

Mine is painted glossy black to match the car. I had the 2 pieces molded together into one and then prepped and painted. Tough to keep looking nice though as the first hit on a curb stop will crack it.

You might could Plasti-Dip it. It might be reasonably flexible, and at least easy to touch up.

^ That is a good idea. If it doesn't look good, you can just peel it off. Bet it work work though.

FRP is fiber reinforced plastic. It's like fiberglass but more flexible so it has some give to it. My Shine side skirts are FRP.

The plastidip comes in a bunch of colors. I did my racing helmet in a flat black. I think you can spray any color and then go back with a second "glossy" spray if you want gloss.

Somewhere in between, at least on my helmet. Sort of looks like the original finish on the 99 spec front lip.

I did the work about two years ago so don't know if the plastidip has changed since then.

thanks for the feed back. I am going to try to remove the paint then clean up the lip. I will try that rubber restore back to black stuff first.

That back-to-black stuff doesn't last long... although Griot's has something that's supposedly more like a die than a surface treatment. That might be better. I ended up selling my beat up greying lip, and buying a brand new one and the net-out on it wasn't bad.

Plastidip is like a rubber coating. I wouldn't recommend white plastidip though. Tried it on my Subaru side skirts, got dirty really easily and it was a pain to clean.

Conclusion: Do not white plastidip on low areas

Probably a bad move to paint it on anything but a show car or weekend car. If you did paint it, might be a good idea to only paint the top and have a cutoff line. That way when you scrape the bottom it doesn't have a place that starts peeling and will keep the top paint in one piece. Generally lips on a sports car are going to eat it eventually. If you lower the car or paint the lip you're increasing your chances by double.
