anyone own and fd and an evo?
i've got an evo mr ordered and it's due in some time in october. does anyone here own both and can you give me a comparison from a sheer speed/acceleration standpoint? yes, i know they are completely different cars, but i would like to know how the thing drives, boosts, pulls, etc., before i definitely decide to sell the fd. i'm fairly confident a well modded evo mr would take my car to 60, but my impression is that it will run out of steam at higher speeds. any thoughts/opinions are welcome.
thanks

the acd is for sure, the ayc is all speculation. some say yes, some no, no word yet from mitsu. guys on the evo site have seen part micros that have parts that would be necessary only with ayc, so it may actually show up on the car.

A friend of mine has an EVO. They are technologically superior to the RX-7 and he shows it by destroying everyone on the autocross course. $30,000 will buy you quite of number of years of refinements as I believe Mistubishi is now on the sixth generation of the EVO. I'm not crazy about the styling or interior design of the EVO, however. While the EVO will outdo a 3G in just about every category, bang for the buck still rides with Mazda, in my opinion ($30,000 vs $17,000 in my case).

The one

I have both an FD and 04 EVO. Both are heavily modified, but you cant really compare the two. The FD is alot more fun to drive, but the EVO is alot better daily driver and still has enough power to keep me interested, plus it has more room. The EVO handles very well for a four door and have no problem throwing it around corners.

I have a FD Type R, Evo 3, had Evo' 4 and 5's at my disposal. I'll try not to be bias..but proformance wise......The evo Sucks. Take a stock evo and a stock fd andput the same money in to them, and the FD will win.(Driver is a plus too). I've raced enough evos with more parts than Pep Boys(exaggerating here) but it was pretty modded. and yes they got me out the whole...sometime. but their top end is shitty. Also what I found about the evo is that the fun factor wasn't there anymore (my opinion). If you put the 2 on the highway with a rolling start (2 cars almost equal in mods) guess who would win...FD again.
Hope my opinion didn't offend you, but I think Evos are just Hyped Up too much, Like Skylines....but that another story....
have fun with your new toy.

Rotary Powered

I know someone (Jay) who had an FD, sold it, bought a new evo, proceeded to mod it considerably (he ran a 12.2 recently) and now wants to sell it.
He says he misses his FD, he said it was a lot more fun and looked a lot better than the EVO. He also said he misses the rotary. The 7 can -NEVER- lose! Acutually.. I raced his evo and lost

don't own an evo and an fd, but i do own a 02wrx and an fd. the wrx isn't up to par with the evo, but similar comparisons can be made from the wrx vs the fd and can be applied to the evo vs fd.
the thing i would like to get out is speed/acceleration differences:
-awd is way slower top end. the reason is because hp is split up to the front wheel and rear wheels on awd as opposed to a rwd hp is all in the rear. in the wrx, anything over 70 feels sluggish to me.
-awd has its advantages tho. from a dead stop, you can get out of the whole a lot faster than rwd/fwd cars, that is if you launch correctly. this is because you won't peel out. but you would lose some, if not all, of this advantage when racing from a roll.
as for handling differences between awd and rwd: i feel awd is much safer. when pushing the limits in turns with the wrx, when i start to lose control i feel that the awd help me from spinning out and get back in control. as for rwd, on the fd atleast, i've already spun out taking a turn hard with the fd.
practicality wise, if its your only car, i would go with the evo. fds to me feel way to racey and would be hard to drive everyday (keep in mind i drive on a 93 r1 suspension). more seats and doors is a plus too on an evo.
whichever way you go, i think you would be happy if you keep your car or go with the evo. both great cars.
