Mazda service section said my downpipe was glowing red. And exhaust temp was 510 or so. I'm lost. Please help.

Is that exactly what they told you? Where did they measure the temp? And exactly how were they running the car before the DP glowed and they took the temp?

I have no idea how they where running the car. I think they got the reading from the diagnostic box. Although I'm noy sure. I had some words with them because they were not suppose to start the car. It was in the shop for them to look for a fuel leak which caused a small fire in the engine bay. They told me that if they put a rag by the exhaust tip it would almost catch on fire. I wonder whats the temp supposed to be. They said some where around 150. That sounds low. I wonder if this might have something to do with the fire.

The egt might be 150 on a Honda Insight but not a rotary.

Doesn't sound like your mechanic knows what he's talking about. 150 degrees is normal? What a bull!

drop everything you are doing right now, and go get your car. Slap the mechanic and run for your life..

It is fine that people don't knwo about FDs, but be upfront about it, don;t bullshit people. That shop coud do serious damage to your car,, run Lola run.

I picked the car up yesterday and had some words with the management. They tried to charge me 217.00 to change plugs and do some diagnostics work that i did not authorize. Needless to say i did not pay them ****.

They said the exhaust at the muffler tip was very hot. If the cat was clogged would exhaust be coming out the muffler?

ok odds are your cats clogged causing the glowing dp...is the car feeling slower? you may not be getting full boost 2....

best bet is to find a mech in your area who knows what they are doing...

as far as the fuel leak it could be the fuel lines, (was the re-call done?) or a new tendancy im seeing is the fuel pulsation damper....

bes bet is to either find someone local who can help you or seach down a fd frendly mechanic

Are you sure this is a rotary technician? ALL rotary exhausts are hot.
