Question Anyone know a simple way to gain HP?

I have saved a little money. I am happy with my 93 rx-7 however I wouldnt mind adding a few things to make it a lil quicker. It isnt a big deal to me so I want to know what is an inexpensive way to make my car quicker? An intake? Downpipe? Will some things make me fail emissions? Help!

3 basic, includes some reliability... DP, catback, KN filter... will fail visual emissions, but not actual. That's all I have on mine...

Don't listen to these guys. The great thing about FD's are that they can be modified safely and easily to 300+ whp. There are certain steps that you must follow to insure a healthy motor when modifying. The first things to think about is some kind of intake and catback. If you get rid of the precat and install a downpipe, you should really upgrade your ecu to handle your new mods. If you do not, you will risk blowing your motor. You can pick up a used M2 or Pettit ecu ( modified stock ecu's) for around $400. They are very safe and proven ecu's. As a benchmark, with an M2 ecu, intake, downpipe and catback, your car should be around 270-280whp. If you can get all these parts used, the price would be around $1000. Check out this site http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/. It has a wealth of information and will answer most of your questions. Good luck.

BTW, as far as "visual emmisions" in California - you must retain all your original smog equipment and modified intakesi.c.'s and such are considered illegal, but even with the strict emission laws here I have never failed the visual (see my sig for mods). As far as the sniffer goes, with the mods I stated above, you should not have any problem passing smog, unless your car has current smog problems now.

First of all, the saying is "couldn't care less." I can't believe how many times that is said incorrectly on this forum. Second, his first post immediately states he wants to go faster, so it does seem he cares quite a bit about how fast it is.

If a person doesn't know what something as simple as a catback or filter is, I would agree with the previous comments that this car is definitly not the car to be learning on.

i hear alotta different comments on ecu. i know u need ecu upgrade when u have midpipe? am i right?
so if i get upgraded ecu.....is that a plug in and play?? i really hate to mess with electric stuff. (just because i dont have alotta knowlege about electrical stuff)

haha i wish im the one who can answer all the questions in this forum lol

i was about to put dp on my car next week, but now im scared....that ecu got me scared again...

no, you will not need an ECU with intake+downpipe+catback. there are people that would also add to that an intercooler and mp, but the first three are 100% safe on stock ECU. the ABSOLUTE MUST though is NOT RAISING THE BOOST. the stock ecu simply is NOT mapped for any higher than 10 psi.

get a boost guage and a temp guage 1st, like, now if you don't already have them. a mechanical boost guage is easy to hook up, a water temp guage is a little more involved, but they are musts. the stock temp guage is useless.

make sure the boost is a correct 10-8-10 pattern.

then read all the FAQs, the info sites, and use the search function of the forum.

Get this sweet-*** MOD!@#$%^&

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7914759223&catego ry=33742

Just kidding....

RX-7 modification 101. The stock 3rd gen is fast but it can become blindingly quick with some time proven modifications. Why didn’t Mazda design the RX-7 with these mods in the first place? Mazda had to satisfy a long list of government noise, pollution and safety regulations and satisfy the average sports car buyer’s creature comfort needs when they designed the 3rd gen. By making it a little noisier, a little less reliable, and pollute a little more you can create the razor sharp sports car you’ve always wanted.

You can boost the horsepower output of the engine from it's stock 255 hp at the flywheel to 360 by opening the intake, upgrading the intercooler, adding a fuel computer, replacing the pre-cat with a down pipe, replacing the main catalytic converter with a legal high-flow cat and replacing the very restrictive cat-back exhaust. Road and Track called the stock 3rd gen RX-7 a Trans Am car for the street. At 360 hp and 2900 lbs it is scary fast..... READ MORE HERE: http://robrobinette.com/mod_pro_con.htm
