Anyone know if there is a difference in the CYM engine

Mazda requires a VIN# for ordering an engine for the CYM. I was told if you call mazda and say you have a CYM they require a VIN#. This being the case is there something different about this engine or what?

No, the CYM has the same motor as the Base and Touring.

Its a little known fact that Mazda put a different engine in each car depending on the color of the car. For example, the CYM's actually have different shaped rotor housings that tend to put out about 25 HP less than the Vintage Red cars. The Vintage red cars are, of course, the fastest, and get the best engines. In addition, it is a violation of Federal law # G22649C to put an engine from a VR car into a CYM. Normally a violation entails a fine of $1500 for a first itme offender.

Hope this helps

Ok now I am totally lost. I agree... WTF

What is a CYM engine?

And I call bullshit on the different shaped rotor housings, horse power difference, and the whole color theory. Hell ferdral law does not apply to Japan.

I think adam likes to pull legs

yeah and certain cyms came with a 6spd with a single turbo....

Also silver R2s came with hollowed out rotors...which allowed quick revving

Yeah, I guess we are still considered n00bs if we don't know everything about everything and don't have over 700 posts.

I thought it was funny too. That was why I said adam likes to pull legs. Nuff said, I am done, I don't really care. I just used the fancy search button and found out what CYM means. Now I feel a little stupid.

you said "little known fact" in your first post so i thought it might have been a little known fact, but i thought about calling b/s cause people buy diff rotors and rotor housings all the time for rebuilds..... just cause i wasnt sure about something doesnt make me a noob, and if we're getting started on noobs i've seen quite a few people that give advice all the time that have well over 1000 posts ask noob questions.

Hi Jacked thread or something

Interesting direction this whole thread went. Okay, recap. I am not trying to say one car is better than another or what ever. I wanted to try and "Source" someone that might have that tid bit of fact for the reason of a VIN# check. Why would Mazda care or not. Thats what is trying to be answered here. So if you are a seasoned 3rd gen enthusiast who knows or has a good hunch of why Mazda would ask, I would like to know and most likely others on this forum.

Mazda needs the VIN for two reasons. First they want to determine if it is an auto or a 5spd. 2nd, they keep track of which motor went into which car. I've bought 8 or so remans and they always ask what the VIN is.

Makes sense. When there's a warranty involved, they usually want to know what car the engine was installed in.

You are not your post count.... I could go around posting **** in each thread and run my count up... I respond when I know something that could be of help but most often I think of myself as the resident observer.

Reading and learning.
