'97 J-spec engine swap
When my '94 blew a seal at 68K - typical - and the warranty company refused repair, I bought a complete 3rd Gen RX7 < 30K mile engine from Midwest Engines for $2300 shipped to Florida. Pettit installed it and did only a few minor replacement mods as below.
Cam thinks it is a '97 because it has no EGR valve ...which is kinda nice because with a '94 the electrical EGR valve is a eweak point. I had to find a '93 ECU - ebay for $75 shipped - which doesn't look for the electrical EGR valve - 15 mins to install and absolutely no other issues with theis ECU.
We used the upper intake, throttle body, engine wiring harness and rats nest from the original engine. Cam said something about the J-spec engines not having the fast warmup function and thus the throttle body is different (as is the throttle cable linkages etc..
That's it. This was a RX7 engine , not the 13BTT Cosmo engine, but that can't be too much difference if you can use your upper RX7 stuff.
Good Luck

Pic attached is the engine as we received it from MiD West.
