If you have the stock TB elbow then just simply plug the hole on the elbow and plug off the hose. You can remove the solenoid and put a block off plate on it but 1 you'll have to remove the UIM and 2 the check engine light will come on. Other then that, your car might stall right after the first start up after its been sitting for a while.

No, but some say it helps in the longtivity of our cars. Its never good for a stone cold motor to rev to 3000rpms or whatever. I also forgot to mention that simply plugging it will not create the check engine light to come on.

Then just simply plug the hose, and the nipple on the elbow. No check engine light will come on. Just remember that your car will probably stall when its cold. If you just tap the gas a little bit after the first start up it usually wont stall. On warm days it usually wont die though.

The check engine light does not come on with the AWS system removed. If you check engine codes there will be a code stored for AWS but it does not trigger the light.

I sold 25 sets of AWS block off plates quite a while back ('99-00?) and no one reported a check engine light. I've also removed the system from several cars with no light.

It isn't really much of a "mod", I took mine off because I didn't like dealing with the AWS hose on the TB elbow.

If you start the car with the shifter in gear (clutch in) the AWS will be cancelled, if you blip the throttle once it'll also cancel it so no biggie. I believe the PFC does not support AWS so if you have a PFC no need to keep the AWS.

It will start just fine, just sometimes it will stall on the first start up when its stone cold. The second time you crank it over it will start and won't die. That usually only takes place on cold days. If you just tap the gas a bit after you get it started on the first crank it usually wont stall at all. Nothing to really be worried about.

I think Max coopers site and scuderiaciriani.com states that it will. I havn't fully removed mine yet so I was just basing that off those 2 sources.

Edit: Directly from their sites:
UNPLUGGING THE ASW SOLENOID ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR

Yes, unplugging the ASW solenoid valve's electrical connector will disable the ASW system but will also cause the "Check Engine" light to come on. That's the reason no one does it this way.

Too bad not everything you read is not true, no AWS = no check engine light. That is also why I disagree with the reliability mods commonly listed also. They aren't a bad idea in general, just not a guarantee of reliability.

scuderiaciriani is a great site but most of the info is from the "big list" days. To understand what the "big list" was like years ago go over to the RX8 club and look around. The owners were learning, some of the info they thought they learned was wrong.

I don't have any pics and I don't sell the block off plates anymore.

Call Jason at the RX7 store for the plates.

well since you run a PFC, that means no check engine light right there. I would think you would know this.

I am about to do this, since I have a greddy elbow, with no nipple to keep the AWS. . .I don't think I'll miss it.

I have everything out right now. . .what's the best way to remove the AWS system. I went to the website to order the block-off plates, and there's one for the pipe, and one for the valve. Where the heck's the valve??

Should I remove the solenoid also since I have the rats nest out. What do I do with the plug and vacuum lines once I remove the solenoid?

Any help would be appreciated.

On the rotormafia site it looks like all I need to do is block the hole in the UIM. Is it that simple?
