Anyone have ainstuctionla how-to to shorten the OEM shifter?

I just bought a brand new shifter from Ray to replace my replica MazdaSpeed (which will be for sale shortly), but I'd really like to shorten it a little before installing it.

Anyone know how? Once the 1/2" - 1" is cut, how do I machine the threads on it?

Thanks,

Ian

You're looking for a metric thread die.

I don't know the size offhand. It might be a special size that would only come from a tool supply catalog.

Why not cut a section out of the middle, and reweld it. That way you keep the oem threads.

Why do this at all? Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering?

I may have the die ,if it is has not been taken. I will look this afternoon and repost . I would not cut a section out of the middle and weld , the metal is hard and the weld may break with repeated hard shifting , retreading is safer .

If you have a welder, sure.

A welder is several hundred dollars more expensive than a thread die. Even a cheap bastard has to appreciate that
