True, but keep in mind you can always get an appraiser to give your car a value of upper teens to into the 20s, in the unfortunate event of an accident.

In the end the insurance co. looked up what "Other" FD's with similar mods / condition / milage were selling for on Auto Trader... and then took an average... Anybody wanna start posting their cars for $40+k in auto trader ???

tahts got me thinking, can you actually find a "car appraiser" and have your car officially appraised by having someone "inspect" it? i would just like to have leverage because my car is worth WELL over 20k being a showroom condition CYM with low mileage that's all original and it would be a shame for it to get wrecked and get a measly 10k from my insurance because nada says its only worth 10k...

hm...i'm just wandering aloud, how did KBB find the retail value for private parties when in the first place it goes unreported. they should have an option for private party sales where we can log in and fill out those info and how much we're selling.

yeah i thought you were talking about a speculative idea, didn't know you were stating fact...haha, id have to talk to insurance to see if they'd actually substantiate those "appraised" values if i were to have it done...probably not...

Insurance companies are the biggest crooks. They will tell you "while we will certainly take it into consideration, we cannot guarantee that we will pay that amount in the event of a total loss." Ask me how I know

Bottom line is, get it to protect yourself. If you fight long and hard enough, you'll get what the car's worth if you've done your homework and have proof to support it (and of course, if you've been paying for coverage to cover the additional mods etc). The squeaky wheel gets the oil...

I think KBB,NADA,Blackbook,Galves(dealer book)mean anything.I mean, yea, for insurance it might be useful, but thats about it.All numbers are suggestions, nothing more.Private party value for a car might be 20k with 13k miles, but it doesnt mean youre gonna get those 20k when someone wanting that car has researched enough to know.Same thing as the dealer, which is usually 4k lower than retail. They're just all guides. As the dealers would say"KBB or NADA dont buy/sell cars,we do"and they tell you to have either one of them buy your car for what theyre saying its worth.I should know,i work at a car dealer and we say this every day. Now,you want the car,and you pretty much dont care what you pay, then hell,go for it!

You probably say that as you fool people that are trading in their cars into believing that their car isnt worth diddly.

The books are a suggestion, you are correct. However, they are suggestions based on what the market value of the cars in question are. These suggestions dont just come out of thin air. Something is only worth what another is willing to pay true. However, the suggestions come exactly from that... what others in the recent past were willing to pay.

Wrong!Maybe just because you got when you went to a car dealership,it doesnt mean that theyre all the same way. Some cars have better values than others, and some books like certain cars better as well.Im not saying that sometimes people get lowballed either,it happens, but be realistic. No matter what anyone tells you at a dealer, youll probably think its BS either way, cause thats the mentality pretty much everyone has when they walk in.Anyway,KBB,NADA,etc. is still a suggestion,no matter how you put it.Or as they say at most of these people fooling dealers,"go have Kelly buy your 2000 Sonata with 99k for the $6 they say its worth".

You get what you pay for.
