I have a '94 R2. Stupid KBB takes OFF value b/c the R2 doesn't have "desirable" options like leather, cruise, moonroof etc. It's blind. Most FD enthusiasts would *want* an R2 (or R1).

That said, my '94 R2 is valued at $15,270 Private Value, and $18,150 Retail Value.

Holy ****, i havent checked KBB on our cars since the time i was shopping for one a little over 2 years ago.

I remember i saw the retail value of 14,200 back then, now like 28 months later retail value is 17,265.

I'm a little skeptical about their values. Just try this little exercise for any value. private party, retail, or trade in. Enter 1 mile for the mileage and then enter 50,000 miles, you'll notice the values are the same. Somewhere after 50k miles the values start to decrease. In addition there is always the same delta between retail value and trade in value no matter what mileage you enter.

Retail value doesn't mean squat. The only # that matters is private party. :/

I have noticed the recent increase too. When I bought my car over a year ago, it said it was worth ~11,500 with 75k mile. Right now with 87k miles, it says it's worth $16,850. That's pretty cool.

P.S. It doesn't really matter, I'm not selling it any time soon.

EDIT: These are Private Party Values.

KBB in a sense also doesn't mean jack squat when you have guys that are liquidating their running FDs for less than $11k.

Very true. For years I've been saying that WE set the value for our FDs. If we sell cheap, their value will be cheap. If we sell at their value (high), they'll hold their value.

Same problem as the Buick hobby, the Grand National, GS 455 ect.
The guys that owned them would part them out or sell them too cheap.
But now, the value of those cars has really taken off.
Thank you Barrett-Jackson!
We can thank the F&F movies!

DITTO!

But it does feel nice knowing the value is going up, at least you know if the value goes up and up, maybe the market for these cars will go up as well and "kids" wont buy these cars but only experienced drivers and rx7 enthusiasts.

No Dave, it's not, b/c NADA value is VERY low compared to the KBB. KBB is showing 18K or so. NADA is thousands less; only abou $13.5K. That's HORRIBLE if someone wrecks their FD and the insurance company uses the NADA value.

EDIT: I was saying IN THIS CASE, the NADA value is much lower than the KBB. The relationship between the two varies based on what car you're looking up.

That's true. But like any insurance issue, the insurance company will squirm out any way they can. If my car were totalled, it always helps to have extra info supporting my idea of 'fair market value'. If you don't present a good strong case, and fight a little bit, you won't get it.
