Question Anybody w/ FD under 25???

I was lookin into gettin a 3rd Gen FD RX7 ....and i was wondering from u guys that are under 25 that own one.....how the hell do u afford insurance?....i got a quote from geico that said i was gonna have $5,948 tab over 6 months for insurance....that is absurd....so now i'm thinkin of goin w/ the 2nd Gen FC...but i'm still a bigger fan of the 3rd Gen FD...for anybody under 25 what do u pay in insurance? cuz maybe i was just gettin a rip off quote from geico "save 15% or more on car insurance" my ***...heheh

You must have screwed something up, or your driving history sucks. I'm 23 and have insurance thru Geico. For insuring my 94 FD and a 94 Beretta, I pay about $1100 per year. I have $1K collision & comp on the FD, but not on the Beretta. Rates also depend on location; I'm not sure how Mississippi compares to the rest of the US, but I'm from Pennsylvania, and insurance is quite a bit more expensive in MS, and I'm still only paying $100 per month for two cars.

I have a clean driving record, btw.

I'm 16, I paid for the FD and my pops pays for insurance, I pay for all maintenance and modifications though so not having to worry about insurance helps me focus on the fun stuff =)

Get a beater car and have it set as your primary car. Then insure the FD as your pleasure/secondary car. You'll come out much cheaper.

BTW, the beater car doesn't necessarily have to work, but you didn't hear that from me.

I'm in the **** hole of FL. I bought the FD when I was 24. I had a clean driving record (back then ), and State Farm wanted over $4500 I started to and I told them I just told my father to put it under his name and I'll pay the insurance, and so he did. Saved myself over $3000 just because it is under his name. I don't care if it is under his name. Point is I drive it

I'm 24, with Geico right now. For bodily injury, property damage and uninsured motorist coverage (ie not comprehensive) i pay $280.70 for 6 months for my 93 Touring. I recommended Geico to a friend but they quoted her pretty high too. She ended up getting a lot cheaper rate with 21st Century. You try them? oh yeah my record's clean too.

the secret is to either have someone else, like your dad/mom, be the primary driver of the FD, or get a beater car and make that your primary car. We have 4 cars in our family and the RX7 is hte "pleasure" car. Insurance on the FD alone is 1000 bucks full coverage AAA>

I'm 17, I paid for the car with my own money and I currently pay the insurance of the car too. I pay like $1300 bucks a year but thats because its listed as a weekend driver and its under my dads name. If not I would be paying something absurd like 9000 bucks a yr

CP...down here in miami i here that some hardcore Rx7 owners hit the tracks at Morosso pretty tough. My friend has a TA and has that taken to the max (well had* it taken before he wrecked it)...he would go out there w/ the rest of his TA club and he told me about all the crazy Rx7 guys w/ da NOS all hooked up for racin like fast an the furious kinda crap...(as in stripped down cars straight for racing).....if i'm not mistaken last time i heard it was 15 bux to go in and race all day....but actually racing is the tricky part cuz i dunno if they have just friendly races or if they go by betting....never been down to Morosso yet cuz i don't got a powerhouse car worthy of hittin that playground yet

I have Farmers Ins. in Colorado, I pay a little over $210/mo for my '92 Bravada and my FD. They both have full coverage, and the Bravada is my primary. I think that's how I get away with it... that and my family insures 5 other cars with them.... Big account, I suppose.

1995 black on black R1 (if i'm not mistaken, could be though)
it was 15,975 which is quite pricey but it is very troublesome to find an rx7 in miami under 16k.....

16k is not pricy for a 95 R2, It's damn depressing to see how low people expect these cars to sell for.

BTW, in my experience, GEICO is a huge rip-off and has terrible customer service as well. I have all my insurance through Allstate and not only do they have very competetive rates, my agent knows me by name.

I am 20 and I got my FD a year and a half ago. Insurance wanted $250 a month so I got a crapper that does not run and I am on that as primary and FD as secondary/pleasure. Now it is $80 a month, $1000 a year.

24 when I bought the car. But it was my second car..my 'beater' is a 2000 VW Passat..I have Liberty Mutual and I pay about $600 during the summer..and about $350 during the winter..so I will get re-imbursed during the winter months as I pay the insurance in one lump sum...
