Anybody replaced glass roof w/ something lighter?

I have a 6pt cage going in soon and am looking for ways to shed a little weight.
I am thinking of looking into having a removable lexan piece made. Anybody done this with lexan or other materials?

Chicken wire will work. Not a real answer, just a free bump

Sorry, I say your Sig and it screamed chicken wire.

how about the metal one??
if you plan on throwing the glass one away you can toss it my way.

lexan might/should work. but you might lose the ability to open/close it. meaning more weight savings cause you can get rid of motor...

If you really want to loose some weight, how about replacing the rear hatch window:

this is a farshot but try searching my.is . someone has replaced the sunroof of the is300 with lexan or something that has made the car much more rigid and lighter, a definite improvement. if you can't find anything in here give that a shot.

Yeah... replacing the sunroof would be pointless. But replacing the rear hatch window with lexan does reduce weight. See the post above.

I have this an aftermarket plexiglass sunroof that came with my -SE. It's a total piece of crap and doesn't seal very well but it's much lighter than the glass roof (less than a pound). Mine is pretty beat and you can barely see through it anymore, but it keeps most of the water off me on rainy auto-x days. I have no idea who makes it, but just so you know they are out there.

This comany makes carbon fiber plates, you can call them up and ask about getting a piece made to fit your window. I had a friend order one for her CRX.

you can also get Carbon Fibre rear hatchs, that with Lexan sun roof and lexan rear hatch window would shave quite a bit off the weight, probly very expensize but if you want real weight savings that is where it's at.
