anybody painted their UIM instead of polish?

hey every1,
I think about 90% of ppl who modify their UIM's have polished them. Dont get me wrong it looks great, but i keep thinking about the Z06 and its red valve covers....and i was wondering what all of you think about doing that to a UIM and TB? Also, my car is a MB...do you think it would clash? Just a thought, since im known to go agaisnt the grain sometimes.

plmk,
-Zach

I painted mine:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=211333

but pretty much back to the stock aluminum color. A few others have painted theres, just look around for more pics.

There is a picture of a car here on the forum somewhere that had the UIM power or ceramic coated red. Looks interesting to say the least.

yeah i like how clean urs is. Did you just use ceramic engine paint? I like the idea of being different...i think a red UIM/TB with all polished intake/IC pipes would look pretty smooth. I dunno how good it would look when my car is green tho, lol. I keep drooling over this pic of a electron blue Z06 with its red engine covers in view.

It's just standard high temp engine paint. You don't need to get all elaborate with it.

Sorry, that pic I was talking about wasn't red, it was blue:

haha aight...once i get some time i'll pick up some red stuff and give it a whirl. I assume im going to have to dissasemble the TB to paint it right? I'm in the middle of painting my wheels gunmetal like ZeroBanger, but after that i think this will be promising. BTW, that blue UIM is

I powder coated mine but i think a cherry red would be very sweet. Even more so on a silver car.

That depends on you. You can actually get all the visible parts of the TB without removing anything. I just used 2 sandwich bags for the sides and some masking tape to mask off everything.

i am sold on powdercoating and i LOVE the look....however i am broke. Engine enamel would hold up ok against degreaser tho.

that does look nice. My only concern is if i tried to EXACTLY match my wheels, id be using the same paint which is Dupli-color wheel paint...specifically designed for wheels. Do you all think that would hold up to the heat in there?

i actually used some silver duplicolor wheel paint on a few things under the hood to see if it would hold up before i bought the high temp stuff. The crossover pipe and intake elbow seem to be holdling up pretty well with no signs of wear, fade, or corrosion. After that i decided to get the high temp stuff just in case. Keep it mind though that i didnt do the manifold with the wheel paint which prolly gets the hottest.

I painted my wheels gunmetal and painted my IC, Air box and manifold black.

Did my wheels about 9 months ago, maybe more. The manifold was about 6 months ago.

engine enamels, wheel paints, etc, will not hold up against degreaser or brake cleaner

only specialized caliper paint (which isn't a urethane based paint) will hold up against brake cleaner

The color on engines like the corvette and s2000 are a wrinkle powder coat. Any place that does powdercaoting should eb able to do it for you. I also tried painting my intake manifold several times, and nothing holds up.

Cihuuy, yes its duplicolor, its the same stuff that zerobanger used, i think its called graphite or something. I think it turned out really well and i like it a lot. If you have any questions ill try to answer them for you.
