And is it just me or does it **** you off when people who dont know rotaries come up to you and say, "Yeah those engines blow up around 70k, right?"

What the heck...
Whatever happened to RX7's being so ultimately unreliable?
Every I tell someone I've got an FD...they say "Be careful, those aren't very reliable."
I think it's totally dependant on how you treat the car.

102,550 miles on original motor and turbos
Overheated once in 1999 when upper radiator hose blew at Mid Ohio. Motor had 60,000 miles then. Leakdown tested at 102,500 miles and silicone o-rings were intact. Motor is low on compression and floods routinely. Turbos are blowing oil quite a bit.
Both are scheduled to be replaced next week at the Rx7 Store Hilliard OH, by Xavier and Jason themselves (I think?)
Replacement motor will be built from a new Malloy Mazda reman by KDR Performance, Inc. Kim Barninger will enlarge the exhaust, intake, oil, cooling ports; install silicone o-rings; perform the eccentric shaft mod to flow oil constantly; dowel pins (whatever that is); and a host of other stuff, that's too lengthy to list.
Replacement twin turbos were purchased NEW from SR Motorsports. They are the Japan spec Type RS/RZ sequential twins.
ECU will be replaced with Apex Power FC (and Commander).
Dave Barninger will "pre-tune" the Apex PFC for retarded ignition, and AFRs set up to deal with upgraded IC, intake, fuel, and free flowing exhaust.
Mods include: Greddy 2-row FMIC/Greddy Elbow Kit; Greddy Airinx Dual Intakes (using K&Ns); 1300-cc secondary injectors, Nippondenso Comp Fuel Pump, Engine Torque Brace; DP/High-Flow Cat/RB Catback; boost set to 0.80 kg/cm^2 (11.76 psi)

Ok, I'm not quite to 70K but will be very shortly (65K). I've been fully modded running 13-14psi for about oh, 1.5 years making 340rwhp or so. I've now added a single, T78 on steroids. Still going strong. Original tuning was a bit rich and combined with too much premix and the OMP lines not routed properly, I think I have some carbon buildup on the housings. Fixing everything and she should be fine. Runs awesome though. I began modding her just after purchase at 9K miles and have run nothing but synthetic. When I took the twins off, the primary was blowing a bit of oil, the secondary looked brand new. Shaft play in spec. I think it all comes down to the owner, maintenance and tuning, tuning, tuning.

98k...original everything.
It's amazing...small problem with the y-pipe coupling still, and a leaky motor mount probably..but she's still got enough left in her to leave quite a few cars like they were standing still.

42k original on my '93 base/leather with all reliability mods, profec-b, CB, DP and K&N. 10-8-11 pattern, being conservative. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
ok ok.. I got a turbo oil control line seeping on the garage floor, and she needs Redline tranny fluid/pads on the corners very soon. I gotta stop treating her anally like a museum exhibit, but when I unload her for a Mazdaspeed RX-8, there's going to a very lucky owner who will get their money's worth.
