Anybody ever spun a rotor (engine) bearing?

If so, does it sound like a rod knocking on a piston engine? I friend of mines 3rd gen engine is making this noise (knock, knock) and I was thinking he spun a bearing. The noise is coming from the inside of the engine and changes with engine RPM. He says it still runs strong, just noisy.
He also said it started when he got on it hard, and later found out (after it started knockin) that he was 2 Qts. low on oil.
Anybody have any thoughts on this?

BTW, I think the car will be for sale soon too.
Its a 93 R1, 5 speed, black, 65k original miles.

Regards,
Frank

If he did spin a bearing there is a great chance his motor is ruined. The metal will go through the housings destroying them and usually it will ruin the turbos also. If the motor is bad I am interested in buying the car from him.

But if that were to happen the motor wouldn't run strong.

Frank . . . Tell your buddie to do a compression check, or
tell him to pull out all the plugs and leave on plug in at a
time to hear if all the compression sounds are simillar.

That will tell you alot. That just my $0.02.
