Any1 have idea how many FD are left in US?

These cars are extremely rare... only time I've seen one in person is when I scheduled to meet up with a couple local FD owners. I've seen production numbers on the US verion (app. 13,000 total produced for US). I was just wondering if anybody has seen figures on how many FDs are lost (parts cars or totalled; non-repairable) each year, so that I could guess-timate about how many FD are still around (not-totalled) in the US. I'm aware this is probably impossible to get a number that's even close to accurate... wasn't sure if insurance companies would put out info like this (since a wrecked FD usually = insurance claim).

If anybody has seen any figures about how many FDs are left in the US, please post... I take pride on driving a rare car. This would just be some nice trivia to know.

There are some threads on this...

Somewhere between 3000 and 6000 is what I heard.

More interestingly, I would like to know how many unmodded ones exist. I would bet the number would be 10% of the total.

Because insurance is so high for this car, I bet there are quite a few sitting around not driven, but that is just a guess.

I bet 100% stock are very rare... b/c from what I've heard, due to the heat the engine & turbos produce, the reliability mods are almost a must. I just bought my car, but it has a 3" downpipe, all else stock, so I'm practically stock, but plan on doing the reliability mods when funds are availible.

But 3,000-6,000 out 13,000 is all that are left? If that's right, that's cool. Granted parts are harder to find, but I LOVE the fact that (practically) nobody else locally owns/has drived an FD.

Yea I think I've run into many people who have no idea what the car is and assume it's just another honda... and oh do they learn.

Aside from the styling & performance, the rarity (if that's a word?) really drew me to the FD. Anybody can go buy a Corvette... they're fast... but they're ugly (in my opinion of course)... & everyone & their momma has one. With the FD, you get performance, styling... & the exotic car feeling of 'no one owns this buty me' thing. I LOVE IT!

My paint job sucks (as I just bought the car) & it still turned heads while it was being trailered home & sitting in the driveway being worked on... with a Corvette... you see it & go... "another Corvette"... with an FD... most people go... "holy ****... I don't know what it is... but I want one"

I've seen one on the road here in over a year. Mine is the only one I see now that I am driving it again. The shop I go to has 5-6 in is lol and one was on his way to the shop as I was leaving, but I didn't see it so it doesn't count

Actually the oposite is true. More cars totaled = more spare parts available.

So keep crashing those cars because I plan on keeping my for awhile.

since you brought this up, i remember one of my friend's father asked me about my FD is a latest car from Mazda in 2004; cuz he said this is a nice and awsome car & he never see before. Then i told him this a 93 model, and it is unique in US and etc.......; and then i told him this is Rotary Engine and the only car that use Rotary. And then he said "Wao Wao wao......" Afterward, when i m warming up the car and ready to go home, he came up and ask me where he could buy one. At that time, i pride to have one in the world.

EDIT: most all the people i meet think of it as a miata (cause i said its a mazda) or a Corvette. (Cause i say its fast)
