I live in DC metro area, I drive my FD daily(about 8miles to and from work), I'll go months without seeing another FD, then one day I'll see 5 or 6 while driving my work truck!(it sucks not being able to flaunt your fd'ness to other fd owners!), as of right now I am the only 1993 black Touring in my county, there is one other at a local used car place w/ 50k miles(auto) the dudes sellin it for like 8k. Then theres another 93 FD over at an exotic car sales/rental place, they have Ferrari's/Lambos/tons of american muscle, the guy rents that FD out rarely, Then again I pretty much know every other FD owner around my area! ><

Wanna here a lottery size coincidence? I bought my stock 93 R1 at the end of May 2005.
The day before I bring it home an IDENTICAL one shows up in the driveway of the house next to mine. It was the same color, same year, same everything.
How many houses in the US? 50 million? There were 1015 1993 R1's....probably less than half of them Vintage Red. The chances of two of them showing up on the same street at the same time? I don't know, but needless to say we were both in awe.

There were 2165 R1s, 1177 of which were Vintage Red. Pretty freaky odds!

There is no way for anyone here to determine how many FDs are still in operation, so any answer to the contrary is a wild-*** guess with no facts to support it...

Yup I saw that and I thought that was interesting, 2 FD's being purchased the same day. What are the odds? .

lol. ya, it's pretty crazy. a couple of weeks ago, this guy asked me, "oh, so you're summer?" i asked him how he knew my name, and he was like, "you're the only girl in miami [that he knows of] with a 3rd gen. . . everyone knows."

did you just get your baby? congrats!

Yesterday, a couple of kids (12-15 years old) were riding bikes around the neighborhood. They stopped next to my car and took a photo with their camera phone. It was funny.

I wonder how many FD's have signed up on that registry site? www.fd3s.cc

[edit: including myself, there are 72 3rd Gen's registered there]

I registered shortly after I bought mine!

& you mentioning the 12-15 year old kids... I'm working on my car & 2 kids about that age ride past on their bikes... I hear one tell the other 'that's a nice rx-7... my grandma? use to have one... but he wrecked it...' Okay... so I HAD to have mis-heard him (although the wife heard the same thing...) but still... not many grandparents drive an RX7. Either way, I was impressed that the one kid knew what kind of car it was (he couldn't have seen the badges). Then again... he probably just knew what car it was from the Fast & the furious or Need for Speed Underground...

There are actually a good amount of FD's in my area. I really never see them driving just over the years i have found them on the forums and so forth. I love how i see vipers or a ferrari more then i see Fd's. When i was at the ocean i actually had a girl(about 18) ask me if my car was a ferrari, lol. It's fun having such a rare car.

Yeah, I'm actually thinking of going 'badge free' when I re-paint the car becuase I think most people won't 'know' what car it is without the badges telling them.

I was just wondering if anybody has seen figures on how many FDs are lost (parts cars or totalled; non-repairable) each year, so that I could guess-timate about how many FD are still around (not-totalled) in the US. I'm aware this is probably impossible to get a number that's even close to accurate... wasn't sure if insurance companies would put out info like this (since a wrecked FD usually = insurance claim).

If anybody has seen any figures about how many FDs are left in the US, please post... I take pride on driving a rare car. This would just be some nice trivia to know.
approximately 9,742 FD's left in america, 30% of them are from california.

Dont know how relevant this is, but every 1-2 weeks, theres probably 5 new FDs listed here.

1993 MAZDA RX7 Jackson MS-SALVAGE FIRE: ENGINE

1993 MAZDA RX7 Houston - COLLISION: FRONT END JM1FD3311P0000000

1993 MAZDA RX7 Kansas City - THEFT: FRESH WATER / ENGINE DAMAGE 999999999 (BROKEN) JM1FD331XP0000000

1993 MAZDA RX7 Los Angeles CA-SALVAGE CERTIFICATE COLLISION: LEFT SIDE / FRONT END JM1FD3310P0000000

1993 MAZDA RX7 Charleston - Summerville SC-SALVAGE FIRE: TOTAL BURN JM1FD3313P0000000

Its amazing how many FDs are totaled due to engine fire damage.
