Since they are about the same price as regular springs are they worth buying or should I just get softer springs?

All helper springs do is take up slack when the car is jacked up in the air, i.e. they hold the main spring in place. They don't affect handling. So if the springs are proper length to begin with you don't need helpers.

There is such a thing as tender springs so that you can have double rate spring. So the tender spring is soft for a smoother ride when going straight but compress quickly when you go into a turn then your using the stiffer main spring. Never heard from anyone using this set up but read about it in one of Sport Compact Car's projects and have seen them listed in an Eibach catalog.

That's how they are being advertised (double rate/tender foot). They are only 2" & 3" and compress quickly. The spring rates are 89 & 117lbs which is 1/2 the rear rates of the stock springs. They are for comfort.

So that leaves two choices:
1. buy helper springs
2. buy & replace with softer springs

Since the JIC springs are not progressive, i'm not sure of the results with softer springs. I beleive the stock springs were progressive but I can't remember for sure.
