I would run propane if I could... all the taxi's here in japan run it. Gas is $4 a gallon and propane is $1.50 a gallon... I would kill for it.

Can you run only propane? I though it's just for uping the octane rating...

Propane is used instead of GASOLINE it has a natural octane rating around 106 BUT burns MUCH HOTTER so it is not good for a rotary. It can be used as an Octane Booster by injecting it in conjunction w/ gasoline and it has the side benefit of Cooling the intake charge (similar to Water/Methanol injection) if it it is injected as a liquid (Propane absorbs huge amounts of heat as it evaporates)

It IS NOT a substitute for NITROS - It contains NO OXYGEN - Nitros is injected to increase the OXYGEN contet of the Intake charge (it contains significantly more Oxygen per unit wt. than Air does)

Propane is really picky... if it runs to lean or to rich, it will run way to hot. It sucks...I see it all the time, being a machinist and all...

A few years back...pre forum days...I remember reading about some people with first gens running propane (in place of gasoline). So I know it has been done on wankels...of course I don't know if they're still running!

I had one running on propane for years. Worked great with a turbo.
There were a number of good propane conversions running in Australia as well.
