Any suggestions on hood pins?

May install some and was wondering if any of you know which ones are better, or are they pretty much all the same.

I think I'm going with the ones made by Mr. Gasket from Summit Racing. They are locking hood pins, which is kinda cool.

Bringing back and oldie

After taking my car pretty fast >150mph I couldn't help but notice that teh hood was fluttering nicely...almost looked like it was going to fly off....(stock hood) has anyone added hood pins to the stock hood?

Most people say that if you have the stock hood or another metal hood then you don't need to worry about hood pins. Of course if you are going 150 + I can see where they would be helpful. They are mostly for carbon fiber or fiber glass hoods as the catch can easily break off at 'not so high' speeds.

I guess my real question is...Is there any disadvantage to adding say the locking hood pins to the stock hood? I really didn't care to see that thing jumping around so much...kinda scary actually..

Your HOOD latch needs Adjusting! - loosen the three bolts holding the latch and move it DOWN about 1/8" then retighten the bolts and test by drop closing the hood from 4<>6" above the latch - If the latch does not catch, bring it back up a bit If it catches easily & the hood sits flush then its ok. If the hood still flutters add a washer (there is a TSB that lists a special MAZDA part for this) under each of the rubber bumpers at the front of the hood.
I glued some stiff 3/16" thick Neoprene foam (gets compressed to about 1/16") to my hood at the contact point for the bumpers in addition to adjusting the latch to reduce flutter/shake.

My stock hood does the same thing. The latch on my hood is starting to cut away where it engages the lock. I wrap it with electrical tape to fill the void, but it's ony a quick fix and I have to do it often. I was thinking of trying some JB weld or having a welder friend hit it. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I just thought about the hood pins as a fix because they look kinda kewl and would definately keep it from popping off..just didn't know if there was a downfall or install problem in doing this...but think I will try the adjustment cuz it aint nice watching that thing that thing flutter at high speed.

Mine was doing the same thing - ADJUST the Latch! (see my post above) but also add 2 washers under the top two bolts (between the latch assembly & chassis) to move the latch hook to a new (unworn) part of the latch bar on the hood.

I tried JB weld in the void wrapped w/some metal Duct sealing tape - Lasted about a week - NOT a good fix.

I bought the sparco hood pins for the same reason

I haven't installed them yet I'm worried about drilling holes into my hood and I think the hood pins may mess up the smooth lines of the car

I really like the fact that there is no way the hood is coming up with these so I think I will do it any way.

Snook, you still have your stock hood? if you do I would be interested to know if there is anyone who has added hood pins to it and how the install was.

yeah, kinda thought about the whole "mess up the smoothe lines of the car thing" too.

Seems a lot of people think this is a ricer mod??? Not that I plan on going 150 mph (again), I think they look neat, but I don't want to drill holes in my stock hood. Oh and my hood didn't shake at those speeds.

Damit I'm a ***** I know.
