i know what you mean...for me the passenger side seems to close a lot easier than the driver side. the driver side if the windows are up you have to slam the damn thing. one time i was driving and this guy kept pointing at me and it turned out my door wasn't completely closed

First, check the alignment of your doors. You could risk damaging both your doors and body panels. You can remove the main bolts that allow the door to swivel. From there, you can realign the door to the car.
Second, check the alignment of your windows. If your window is cranked too high up (meaning above the normal level), then you could risk breaking the window. The window itself could be cranked too high due to a worn or old stopper. You could actually be pushing the window against the body of the car!

My door alignment and window alignment is fine.
I think...
I had this issue when the car was brand new with only 6miles.
but driver door with window up never closes all the way.
unless I slam the hell out of it.

This is not a problem of door alignment, but a physics problem of trying to compress air into the car. I always just make sure to leave my door open until the passenger closes their door, then I know how to shut mine without damaging the door. Just another of those little things every FD owner gets used to.

My Grand Am came with one way vents in the door jam to allow interior air pressure to escape when the door was closed. Installing one would require some cutting. You could try cutting some of the weather stripping on the bottom of the door to allow the air out.
Put stickers on the passenger side that say "Do not use Hip to close door!"

What's funny about the FD doors is that on my 79 GS, the door hinges were designed to decrease the closing effort. Therefore, a slight push would shut the door. I had to get passengers to GENTLY shut their doors to avoid the door shutting too hard.

I have the same problem and I remember seeing a MotorTrend(or other major mag) mentioning it during their long term test of the car. I think they replaced the door seal but it was still hard to close.
I've seen someone on the NE Forum put some of that auto sound insulation stuff inside their door panels. Seems to fix it and the door closes with a nice Mercedes thud. I'm thinking about trying it myself.

I agree with the compressing air inside the car. Mine does the same thing. I also make sure the passenger closes their door first, keeps my 'required door closure force' a constant. I like the idea of opening the hatch, though. Tom

Always allow your passenger to closer their door first. If you are dropping someone off, crack your window just before they close the door.
After your passenger gets out, always close your door (if you are also leaving the car) by pressing the latch-area...not the door panel (you can tell your passengers this too).
The car is very airtight which can make the doors hard too close...so always help your passengers by cracking a window (or keeping your door open) so they don't try to slam it shut via the door panel (and dent it). :)

same problems with my 93 r1... the 94+ cars seem a little better but still not too great either. i don't think it has anything to do with the door or window alignment, almost all the fds i've seen had some form of the problem.

I've found that instead of just giving the door a shove to close it, (ie pushing it then letting go of it), if you follow through as you push the door closed, (ie keep you hand on the handle to exert effort as the door is actually sealing), it closes everytime with little effort.
This problem is definately caused by a good sealing car because with the sunroof open, or the windows cracked the doors close easily without "follow through".
With the stock alarm I believe I have to hood the door handle up to get it to arm correctly so I always keep my hand in contact with the door while it seals.

I've had the same problem with my R1. Hard to close the door unless a window is slightly open. It is the complete sealing of all the openings which makes it more difficult to close the door.
In my 2000 BMW, when you open a door, the window automatically opens 1/4 inch. When the door is closed, the window, automatically closes completely.

I slowly close my door until it's about four inches from closing. I don't need to slam the door from this distance. If you close it when it's mostly closed, then the air pressure inside the car does not raise so much that you need to slam the door.

do what Jonski suggested, which is what ive been doing for almost a year now. Just lock your doors, and press the door shut. then just lean against the door and presto, the door is closed w/o the hassle of the hard slam. Just make sure u dont have any keys in yer pockets, or you risk the paint.
