Any problem with aluminum PowderCoating ?? A Arms ?? Wheels ?? Etc ??
Guys,
Iīve been reading for days... Some say Ok... Some say no way..!!
I want to powdercoat my Wedsport Wheels and most suspension aluminum parts (of course without any plastic thing in it...), am I right ???
Does it requieres any special coating different that a regular one ??
Gracias..!!!

not at all, i do powder coating all the time for aluminum parts, iron, steel, anything really.
just make sure to take anything with rubber, plastic, or anything that can melt, out.
dont do anything that has ball joints though, as you will destroy the ball joint, ei: lca, uca, etc

There is absolutely something different when it comes to powder coating aluminum. If it heats up or cools down too fast during the curing process it can become brittle. It's called Flashing, you must avoid this with aluminum. So just make sure whoever you send it to is aware of that and has done it before. If they don't know what you are talking about, take it somewhere else. Wheels and Suspension arms are not something to take a risk on.

I had my brand new enkeis powder coated as they were not offered in the color I liked. I've had no probs through the first month Everything you read/hear says its more or less the most durable finish you can put on wheels. More durable than any paint for sure.

It can become brittle, then when you hit a bump it can break (I've seen this happen to wheels on two occasions).
If you go to a shop that explains how they do it special for aluminum (without you telling them you heard there was a special method), then you should be fine. Go look at the last few pages of my twin charged build to see how awesome it can look.
For cleaning, the powder coating shop with either sand blast it all in house or send it out. Large parts can drive your cost way up, but sandblasting is needed in order to get a quality long lasting coating. They will probably wipe it down with a chemical cleaner after blasting too.
Go for it as long as you can find a shop tht is already knowledgable.
