Any pics of battery in rear hatch?

I tried searching but all the pics except one was working. Lookinhg for some ideas on how to mount the battery in the rear hatch. I was looking at summits web site but the relocation kits look like they will be to big for the miata battery or is it a universal fit? Any one know?

Have you considered placing it in the pas side rear bin? The weight will be much closer to the ground and the center of the wheelbase.

I would but i don;t like the idea of chopping my fd. I like to keep my bins since i use them one to carry some tools just in case and the other to carry my pre-mix and other various stuff. So i use my bins. I was almost reday to rape my bins today but opted to keep them intact.

Any i'm pretty sure a Miata battery won;t make that much difference in weight where ever it's placed. So i'm sure if it's in the rear hatch it won;t make a a difference sinec i'm not a pro racer.

You cant really bolt anything down back there since your gas tank is right underneath the area you would have to drill the hole. I wanted to go this rout as well but it someone pointed this out to me.

Sure you can do it, just have to watch out where you drill.

what kit is that and how does it actually get held down to the body so the box doesn't move around?

I relocated the battery to the hatch when installing my FMIC. No drilling through the car required! I made some brackets (from hardware store) and used the little stud bolts to mount the brackets under the carpet, then those long bolts bolt to the brackets under the carpet and come up the sides of the battery to the top of the battery where that black brace peice bolts on, that black peice I got from advance auto parts. I am glad I did that so there is more room under the hood, it would have been a little hard to fit the battery under the hood so I am glad I didn't have to do that. I use the bins and I didn't feel like messing with them to install the battery there, where it is now seemed easier.

mine looks identical to that...i mean identical but i bought my battery box for 13.99 at autozone how did you tie it down like that. I havent yet secured it because im afraid of drilling into the chassis for obvious reasons.

With the optima yellow top, it is OK to mount on its side.

I believe LUPE is talking about, being leagle at the track. His battery is in a metal box, however I do not see his kill switch. I am sure he has one though. Damn nice car LUPE.

what did you use as a tie down?
and did you route your wires through the fender into the cabin, under the bins?

LUPE is right,
it is illegal, on the street and track, to have any battery, sealed or unsealed, mounted in the same space as the driver and passengers without the proper container. The box must be sealed from the passenger compartment and vented to the outside of the car. It must be bolted to the chasis of the vehicle securely. I don't know if the box must be metal or not for the street, but many tracks have certain specs for the setup (eg. kill swtich, height of mounting, wiring, etc.).
