Any one knows this FD - Is this is a steal?!
Hey all. Newb here. but newb on car forums. So I'm not going to ask crap that I can find out by STFF. All i'm wondering is that do any of you know this cat and this car. Or is he a member of this forum?
I went and saw this car and went for a test drive. Its like a jewel. Its soo clean. I have a hard time beleiving its got 67 K miles on it but its possible. Plust his got a new engin with 3 mm apex seals. its a monster the blow off valve was crazy...his got everything (knock sensor, power FC, water, oil etc etc) to monitor...and from what i've read this is the car you got watch no matter what so if you see any of your gages go red you gotta let off...
Also is it a good deal?
and how you finance one of these things? I talked to my credit union and they were like they only do car loans for cars 6 years old and newer and i tried captialone online and got reject
so...i'm almost scratched the idea off and i'm thinkin in few months i'm gonna get an STi brand new ( i know ugly as hell, and not camparitave to FD in any aspect, but it works form me as a daily driver and the extra 2 doors help if in case i want to put my 8 month old son in there...)
but when i saw that Rx-7 or better yet the dude drove it goin +140 in just a few seconds takin turns and hearin the blow off valve
WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOSHHHHHHH
WWOOOOOOOOOOSHHH
he was runnin hella rich ...he had hood vents and when he shift fuel would squirt out of the vent as if it was nitros....its like after bein in that car...i'm just like **** it...i might as get a minivan if i'm not gettin that...there is NOHTING like it...(at least here in US!)
alright i hope my first post is aint too bad as newb and i wont' get flamed ...but if i crossed the line go ahead flame me i understand....
i hope i get some encourgement...and motivation here and some how pull a stunt and get this FD then i be offical FD owner and belong here!
so far everyone (co-worker...friends...and my Benz forum dudes) have been super discouragin sayin you don't know whats the condition of that car...i would never buy someone elses moded car (which in some aspects i agree) except i know the poeple that have moded this car...they done work on my car and they are dope...MZM International here in austin....

You need to sit back, and realise what you're getting yourself into.

You might try asking in the Regional South forum:
https://www.rx7club.com/south-rx-7-forum-34/
Someone there might be able to ID the car for you.

thanx for feedback. well he said and his got the dyno he put 500 hp to his wheels with the race fuel...but he said on pump gas he runs a rich and only uses 17 lbs of boost which gives him 385 WHP for daily driving...so he said he just had it tuned and they made it run rich, he said its better to run rich and safe and a little less power than lean and boom...one thing he was pretty knowledgeable about the car...also interesting he had a brand new STi with 18 in rims sittin in his garage...he said is pretty much retiring from the Rx-7 he was refferin to the STi as if its a civic...his like ah yea i just got that as a daily driver...so cops don't care about me no more...
the hood vent if you look at the picture is right above the BOV, and when he got on it he kind of didn't get on it all the way, so he wasn't shiftin super fast....so he shift kind of slow and between shifts you hear the BOV that was very loud and some vaporized fuel shoot out of the vent...he said if don't stay on it it shoots out the extra fuel either from the BOV or flame from the exhaust! also he showed me the readings on his Power FC and his injectors where at 92% so he was like they can even give more...(i guess at higher boost)
how about any advice on financing...
btw as far as gettin myself into...my situation is like this...me my wife and 8 month old son have only one car (03 Benz Kompressor Sedan, which makes a whoppin 150 hp on the dyno!!! hahaha) so i'm lookin at this as my car but it also needs to be my daily driver...which i'm worried the RX-7 maybe a bit too much for that...it seems that RX-7 would be the best and is the best 3rd car....i mean for 25 K you have monster than can run a 120 K Ferrari! thats sweet....i wish i had the money to just get it

On that old of a car the most you will be able to get funded and this is if you have really good credit, you might be able to get 85-105% of the kelley wholesale blue book value, with 67,000 miles the car would probably book out around $16,000 so you would need over a $10,000 down payment. There are credit unions out there that will finance a car older than 10 years, just have to call around.

that is a nice *** ride no doubt, but get the STi. i have both. the STi doesn't give the go-kart performance or driver fun, and it doesn't have the wow factor as much but it's MUCH more of a daily driver.
if you haven't yet, i'll say what everyone who has an STi says. you absolutely have to go to a dealer and drive one. make sure you drive their demo so you don't beat the **** out of a fresh car, and let it have it. it's more than enough car for most people right out of the box and seats 4 adults rather comortably.

thanks for that link i start reading it its a great resource...
one other thing:
when we pulled off at very low rpm and going very slowly...specially while turning there were a lot of noise like tire slippin...and vibration from the rear of the car...and he said its because he has a LOCKED differential?! is there such a thing? except for cars that go only striaght?!!! i mean i heard about limited slip? but not locked. he said after the car warms up it goes away and it kind of did.

Be smart and walk away from it. This car is a toy and a project. It is NOT a daily by any means. Do your self a favor and save your marriage before it is wrecked by not getting this car or any other FD as your daily driver.

It isn't even just the purchase price since buying my FD about 3 months ago I have $2500 or so into it fixing stuff up to make sure [[crosses fingers]] I don't get hit with any surprises down the road.
I don't suggest buying one of these unless you either (1) don't need a daily driver or (2) have one already. You also shouldn't buy one unless you can pay cash for it and still have $5000 or so laying around to keep it from turning into a pile of metal filling up your garage when it breaks.
Suggestion on a car purchase for you, drive the STi and also go drive a 3-4 year old Audi S4 with 30-50k miles on it. You should be able to grab one for around 20k or so and then find somebody to give you a used car warrenty on it. For $599 (from www.goapr.com) you can buy a new ECU that will give you 307hp/366torque on 91 octane or 318/382 on 93. It'll outperform the STi, cost you less, have a nicer interior and just as good of an aftermarket community here in the US.

I think your information on the Audi S4 isnt exactly accurate. You can only make about 200HP and 240 lb ft of torque with the ECU upgrades, otherwise you need more fuel and a larger turbo. I am by no means expert on the Audi but I have been considering it as a car to get for a cheap automatic for my girlfriend to drive to work. AWD, 3100lbs and a turbo + decent gas mileage and I can pick one up with decent miles for under $10,000.
Sweet car. I've seen the car at MZM, but that was a couple years ago.
In either case, it's not a car for a family. Period. If you knew what I know now (and if your family's welfare means anything to you), you wouldn't do it. Just thinking about a long term relationship with a woman with a beautiful baby boy has me thinking of selling off some of the RX7 goodies I've accumulated, if not - shudder - the whole car.
It's definitely a third car. As I've said before - those that are currently daily driving FDs have a) just bought and don't know any better, b) realize the mess they've gotten themselves into and actively searching/scraping for a beater, or c) filthy rich and can support it indefinitely. Not many c)'s out there.

Take your time. This car may sell, but there will be others for sale that are still pretty sick. On FDs, over 400rwhp is hard to appreciate since the wheels can't put it down well. And I hope you're a mechanic, since maintaining and troubleshooting modded FDs is either expensive and frustrating (DIYer) or very expensive (done by a shop). The best choice is a low mileage FD with reliability mods and just a couple power mods and a PFC. Since you're talking about money already, I suggest starting smaller and modding later when you're rich and the kid's college fund is full.
For full financing, I had a regular auto loan from my credit union for blue book price $16k, and a personal loan for taxes and the balance.
In my case, it was a mistake of sorts - I bought the first decent example of what I was looking for (an R2 with low miles). Texas has a lot of FDs, so you have no reason to rush. I watched the market for almost a year, but only went out and did test drives for a month or so. In the end I paid way too much - and I'm carrying some credit card debt partly because of the reliability mods that I felt were necessary. These cars are ten years old and need constant attention.
