Aerial/Antennas?

Has anybody replaced there FD antenna with smaller ones? Mine has been broke since i got it and i popped down to mazda and ordered one, but when i got it, fully extended it looked about 1 metre long, would look daft i thought so didnt buy it off them. Nipped to a car shop here in the UK and they had some minature masts that are supposedly universal, anyone know the dimensions of the FD mast?

Anyone replaced it with a smaller retracting aerial?

Also when i tried to remove the aerial motor once upon a time it would budge after removing the 2 screws because of a thick black cable coming out of the bottom? How is this removed as i gave it a pretty hard pull a few times and it didnt budge!

cheers

Ryan

The FD antenna is pretty long but doesn't look that out of place, in my opinion.
Personally, I would keep as much OEM as I could on the car.
I take it that the motor unit for the power antenna is fine?

Yeah the motor still works i can hear it doing its job everytime i turn the stereo on or off, just cant remove it because of this thick black cable.

I do love the aerial on that black FD, but it seem far too much effort lol, just a simple replacement is all i really want to do, just a shorter one as im sure the sound quality will be the same

That 'cable' is a vent/drain tube that goes straight down and out under the car. Just pull and it will come out. My 94 antenna worked but wasn't very long so I replaced it with one from the web (antennax.com) it's auniversal and will take a bit of work to get it mounted and wired bur works ok and is shiny black and 31" extended.

wapelhj: is it this antenna?? Antenna

I have a problem now, i just bought an antenna that is almost identical to that one above, it comes with the big thick black cable that plugs right into the stock antenna cable, but then there are the things to power it. It comes with a small green, red and black (i assume earth) connector. Now the stock "plug" that plugs into the "stock" power antenna to power it had 6 wires going into it. Which of these will i need?? I mean 3 wires into 6

Can anybody help me with wiring up this new antenna??

thanks
