Wink Any final suggestions before I rebuild??? - Please Help

Hey Guys,

Just wondered if anyone had some bright suggestions to resore compression on the rear rotor of my engine before I strip it down? The car starts and runs rough, seems like on one rotor (front). A compression test reveals that the front has good on all faces, but the rear is poor on all faces.

Car is Jap model Efini 1992 (I'm guessing year) 133ks, factory all the way. Car has been sitting for a while in a container from Japan to Australia.

Is there anything I can put in the engine and turn over, (petrol, ATF, oil, etc) to try and restore the compression? I was thinking of taking the top half of the IM off and giving the rear rotor a good drink and a soak in petrol? Sound OK?

Please help, I appreciate any suggestions and will try anything to avoid ominous rebuild.......$$$.......

Cheers!!!

I dont think you can put anything in it to restore compression, its time to rebuild!

If some of the rear seals are stuck due to sitting for too long there could be a chance that you'd free them up by putting one of those liquids in there and letting it soak/turn it over. At worst your only going to waste time and a bit of money. If it happens to work it will save you a lot more time and money over a rebuild. Searching for carbon lock should give you different methods of doing it in the most efficient manor.

The tried and true method to restore compression to get an engine started is to remove the sparkplugs and squirt ATF into the engine, crank it over, reinstall the spark plugs and start it.

I have exact same model....92 Efini from Japan with 135k km's and thats when my first engine went. I just replaced mine with a used engine that had been sitting for well over 6 months in a container and that started first go without any problems.

Didn't you know whether the car had engine problems before it landed?

Yep. I did a comp test and the rear rotor showed no needle action so I got the car a fair bit cheaper expecting to rebuild. The seller was surprised the engine tested badly as he told me he drove the car in Japan before it was stripped and went into the container to Aus. I guess it has been sitting a while and I just wondered if there was anything I could try to restore it before rebuilding it.

I don't mind having to rebuild it, I have some DVDs and a bit of mechanical knowledge so am keen to have a go myself after seeing what Bobfish has done and knowing there is a good support network like these forums for problems. Thanks guys in the states :-)

Oh, by the way I paid A$5k for the car which I reckon was a pretty good bargain, even if I have to rebuild the engine.

Have always loved FDs, happy to own one, even if it's broken at the moment!
