I wasn't referring to you. You have brought up legitimate issues and I know of your track experience.

I was referring to the forum in general...I can't even count how many people I see posting about how much better the FD handles than other cars when they've never raced the car. Trust me people, I don't have near the track experience that guys like DamonB and Ptrhahn have, but I can tell you that you don't have a clue about handling from just driving the car on the street. When you are at a road coarse event, and have to let miatas and other much "slower" cars pass you on the straights (track etiquette), you learn a lot....

Understood, and my post was also meant to clear up any misunderstandings of my views. I actually agree with the points you made.

practical as in being able to drive farther than the track and back in mild comfort.

I think I'll get one just to see if all you guys are right. So who wants to let me borrow $40k?

Seriuosly, though, I think it'll be a really nice car. R&T seems to like it alot. I don't see how they'll like a car unless it performs. Reliability seems like it could be an issue, but that didn't stop me from buying an FD.

I love a good debate.

I won't be trading in my FD or my 914 any time soon.

My 914 is a great handling short track car and my FD is a great handling long track car. I have the best of both worlds parked in my garadge.

Personally, I like the hard top Exige better than the Elise as a race car. The Elise would make a nice weekend car.

You don't make one of the best handling cars in the world and make "comfort" the top priority.

If you want comfort, buy a Lexus.

buy a Noble M12 for near enough the same price, out performs it in every way, better build quality, and looks better imo.

if u want a good handling car buy a westfield, practicality and comfort has to come in somewhere.

so then why not get a shifter cart and rape both the fd and the elise on an autox?

one thing I must say,

stock vs stock

FD's are better in my personal opinion primarliy because of the cost difference. Secondly, because the FD is just such a well designed, all around car. My touring edition atleast... It handles well, it drives like a sports car should, it has a touch of luxury, and it is simply a timeless car.

Overall, if I had to settle with my car or an elise, given I'm getting a somewhat modded FD to make up for the 10 years, I'd take an FD.

I've driven a 02 porche GT2, and it honestly did not feel as good as my FD did. Not that I wouldnt take it in a heart beat, but in terms of a satisfying and heart pumping ride I still turn to the FD.

Only car I've been more satisfied in while driving was a Diablo.

and i would love to know where he got the idea of it being one of the best handling cars in the world?? have you got first hand experience, even seen one in fact?

no trying to be shitty but what you read on a mag or hear on an advert isnt necessarily true. having driven a lot of them over the past 7 years i can tell you they are good, but not that good

Wow.. this has turned into quite the arguement. It will be interesting to see what the aftermarket has in store for the Elise.

The original price of the FD was NOT cheap. You can't compare costs when talking about a 10 year old used car verses a brand spanking new car. Apples to oranges.

I like the idea behind the elise. I wish mazda would build a stripped down miata with the new renaissance (sp?) engine in it. Now that would be fun. Weight is the #1 enemy and the elise is waging a good war. I think in the right hands the elise will be absolutely deadly on a road course or autocross. Am I worried about it........HELL YEAH I'm worried about spec miatas

I bet if the price is anywhere near the alright price range (35k-45k) then we may see more than expected. This will easily out perform the 350z, S2000 (duh), and even the RX8. I honestly would probably rate it near the level of Z06 and up.

The price tag is currently set at $39K. There will be a Sports package option with stiffer springs, stiffer shocks, and wider wheels. Expect that to tack on another $3K. And get in line. From what I've heard, the entire fleet of first year units (3000 for the first year) is damn near spoken for.

As far as performance goes, it's leagues better than an RX-8 (where did that come from?) and a 350Z. Probably a bit quicker than an S2000 ('04 model). But, I'm not sure about whether or not it's on the same par level as the Z06 and its rivals. It could be. But, I wouldn't draw any conclusions until an actual production model hits our shores and you get to test drive it.

We have a few in Greece - it is more of a cart than a car - handles beautifully, but honestly is no real match for the FD. We have however not seen the 192 PS version yet but I would not expect any dramatic differences
