What better way to impress your friends than by taking a nice car, losing control and smashing into a hard object?

Scr3wU5hutUp: I was counter-steering by then. You can see that by the the front wheels. At least, I hope I was counter-steering.

jdhuegel1: Dude, it's all about style! Actually, I was running off of 3 hrs of sleep before I started that day. And, I was also moderately drinking, too. I was so sleepy, that my car was sleepy, too!

Raziel: It's great to be in SoCal. Drift/Track events just about every month. 11 months of sun and pleasant weather. Then again, gas prices suck donkey *****. Oh well! And I think I've met Reza before at DD5. Really cool guy. He hooked me up with some coolant. Nice guy, he is. You should definitely come down here and do some events. There aren't enough FD's out there representin'! All the FD owners I've met, either drag or are the DRFT/Motorex FD.

PhoenixDownVII: Drifting in general is awesome! I remember my first time. Food4Less isn't very happy with me. I owned most, if not all, the aisles with my slide-happy shopping cart. Damn that bad boy was a drift monster! It was sponsored by Ralphs, too. It had a really loud exhaust, too. Well, whenever I didn't have a sore throat.

for all the peeps that don't know about drifting...you should learn. its nice to be able to go fast other than in a straight line. in fact, some peeps in japan do learn by touge drift first. back in okinawa there weren't any 'drift parks' back then to practice drift while new. plus, the whole essence of drift is about the driver...the car is the tool to show the skill to drive other than in a straight line. the better the car is equipped, the better control. of course, with each upgrade more skill is required. that's why little underpowered hachirokus with good suspension and a great driver can win drift events.

i just bought my FD and haven't taken it out yet...the guy i bought it from only upgraded for power (and reliability) but did nothing to the suspension to handle it. i've got the JIC FLT-A2's (best bang-4-the-buck) and are waiting for the frt. and rear cusco tower strut and rear v-braces. we'll see how that goes...i'm also gonna try the stock LSD first. never drifted an FD before, i wanna see if it handles better than a RPS13.

and FF's can drift...if you call it drift. its all about transitioning the weight to the front while keeping traction to turn. the guy who crashed at that event probably didn't fully understand that...went too fast, braked real hard and...understeer.

remember, drift starts before the corner...you start it too late and anything done to attempt to correct will be too late...and oh so sorry, your FD WAS beautiful. i may be a rotary rookie but no drift rookie.

NEATasMEAT keep on keepin on...looks good.

sorry, no digi-camera=no pix...all extra money goes to my cars first.

Getting an FD sideways is a whole lot easier to do than in my AE86. I had my AE86 first and am glad it worked out that way. If you want to start drifting (and I totally agree with keeping it on a track instead of out in the streets), learn with something with less power. You'll learn a lot more that way about the behavior of the car and weight transfer, rather than just mashing the gas and swinging the tail. Start with stock and build the car as your skills progress.

Ghetto rig, homey. Ghetto rig. If you've owned an S13, you should know how to do it as well. If you don't know, then SHAME ON YOU!!! I like to do mine about 2 fingers in between for the JDM Performance Super Ultra Drift Style!

Oh, and I will keep on keepin' on! Cause drifting is like a garden, DIG IT!

The best way to learn to drift, is to do it. An FD is one of the worst ones to start with for such a young and very inexperienced driver such as yourself. We hate seeing these cars thrown into objects because some kid thought he was the greatest driver around. There really is no reason for you to be asking this question at this time. No FD, no money, and no experience. Mods should always come after being able to handle what you have. In this case, you can't.

To tell you the truth i would love to have another car to drift right now (240 ae86 starlet ect.). My FD is just hard to learn in. When im out at events i see some new drivers out there w/ their 240s and by the end of the day they have improved so much. Some cars are just easy and the FD isnt. Although its not impossible to learn w/ the FD. I am learning how to control the car sideways more and more.

Raziel, do you have any other frenz that are interested in drift? if so, why don't you buy a junker 240 (RPS13 or S13) for about $700 together?(depending where you live) mind you, though, it will be a big commitment...but 2 or more sources of income is better than 1, a good start into the sport. a good cheap available car to learn in. besides, more and more suspension parts are becoming available.

Dorifto!

Trying to get that skill under my belt. I'm just afraid of killing my car mechanically (not crashing it).

X...

drifting is over rated, now real men try cliff driving. We attatch our car by chain to the top of a mountain, then try to drive up the wall vertically. Talk about traction problems!

FD's make great Driftcars after you spend a cool $5k on them.

First thing.

You can't drift on a Torsen LSD properly because it loads up each side and makes it very hard to flow through corners especially S bends etc.

So Replace it with a CUSCO 2-WAY which is a cool $2000.

Get some decent suspension Say another $3000

You have a FD Drifter.

Seriously though buy a FC unless you have money to burn. FD's are too pretty to be drifters.

Also why do you US dudes drift around cones ?????

There is no fun in that !!! We bury ours into walls and banks. You guys need to harden up !!!! :P

Thats not tru at all. It doesnt take much to get an FD sideways. I just came back from the NCDA event. This the setup i have.

Tokico + H&Rs
My LSD is the stock Torsen
I also have some power mods aswell

But it is very possible to drift an S turn. I just did it earlier. I think all the FD needs to become a drift car is suspension. It doesnt even need to be coilovers. The stock HP is more than plenty to get the car sideways. Also running some 225s help but i used some crappy 245s on stock wheels.

Well the reason why U.S drifters drift around cones is because we dont have any tracks suitable for drifting. Also everyone is still new at drifting so cones makes things easier and also helps us not worry about crashing.

It's pretty obvious. If you were experienced, you wouldn't be asking questions, you would be giving advice, and just about every post of yours that I've read, you're asking something or the other, or asking for someone to ID a car or part, or asking for someone to post pics of something you're looking for. Some people here have a low tolerance for those who are too lazy to search, and they don't like wasting their time looking for something or answering a question for someone that doesn't even have the car anyway. Don't take this as a flame, take it as constructive criticism, and hit that search link first when you need to know about something.

...well ****...if no one asked questions, then there wouldn't be any advice to give. yeah he might be lazy, but damn, if you don't want to answer his questions then don't. encourage to learn...even if he doesn't own a 7. i'm on socalevo.net to learn as much as i can of those turbocharged inline4 sedans...and they're all kewl with my inexperience with those machines. ease up, cuz i'm a rotary rookie too.

I did answer some of his questions in the beginning but when you see that someone wants to continually be spoon fed the information, *then* you tell them to search. And BTW, no one even needs to ask anything here. There are THOUSANDS of posts on just about every aspect on the car in the archives. Instead of posting redundant questions and waiting for redundant responses, it's all there for you to read through, you get the info right away, and you don't bother anyone.

Some of you guys are scaring me with what you think you know. Few of you guys really know what you're talking about, most of you don't.
