Are any aftermarket intakes smog legal?

Does anybody know of any aftermarket intakes that are smog legal in Calif? I imagine most folks just swap in the stock unit when it's time for smog testing.

TIA

Supermega HKS is not CARB legal. There is only one that is CA legal and it is made by Akimoto. HKS makes a CARB FMIC. Greddy makes a CARB SMIC.

Wrong. The HKS Super Mega Flow intake is perfectly CARB legal.

Many smog places won't care if you have an aftermarket intake or not, especially if you show up 10 minutes before closing on a Saturday afternoon...

Your stock airbox can be modified to work better than the expensive cold air intakes. I sell a kit for $70 that will do the trick nicely.

I also have 94 Sunoco here and I pay $2.15 a gallon for it. My car is register in Ohio but I am in the military. So I'm not required to do smog test if I keep the car register in Ohio.

No.

A. Do stock airbox mod like AdamC's above.

OR

B. Install stock air box for testing.

OR

C. Don't care, because the "cold-air" style intakes on the market are pretty subtle and many smog techs won't care.

Oh my bad...I didn't see the SC in your avatar. I only saw the Cali part (which is why I thought you only had 91...) Now I REALLY hate you lol.

Otherwise known as the one time you were right and I was wrong. Yes I'm certain the Greddy intake is CARB legal.

This is what I used at the time. It was a few years ago and I posted the link. When I did the search the only intake I found for the RX7 was RS Akimoto. When I searched for intercoolers, I found Greddy SMIC and HKS FMIC. I'm glad to see HKS on the list because I "allegedly" claim that my Apexi FMIC is made by HKS and give them that CARB #.

What the? I was shocked as it was to hear that your various parts have to be "Carb exempt" but you're telling me they pop your hood when they pull you over?!

Yep, especially if they see a catback exhaust, or your car is "excessively loud."

I agree with Rynberg. I have the Apex'i intake, but I don't think the smog techs care. The smog techs have never said anything about my intake, and this was at two different test-only shops too.

BTW, all intercoolers are smog-legal as long as they are for the "stock" turbos...

A lot of businesses have come and gone since 2005.

Which companies currently make California smog legal air intake?
