hey guys.
My dad's FD antennae wont move at all. There isnt even a gridning sound like before when he had it replaced. Is there a fuse for the power antennae?

I was wondering if anyone here has entertained the idea of an S2000 antennae?

I know for DC2 Integras we too have the same problems with the power antennae.

Mine works perfectly especially for such an old car. 1994 DC2. anyway on the Integra boards people are swapping them out for the S2000 antennaes.

Here's a question I have for you if you still have the stock head unit and antenna setup. Are you still receiving stations fairly well even though your antenna mast won't go up? The stock setup is called a diversity system with a second antenna embedded in the window glass. The system is supposed to choose the one that is receiving the better FM signal.
So, even without the mast extended, are you still getting pretty good reception?

 

Correction there is sound. However the antennae does not go up. When this happened before there is a grinding sound. I did a search in the archived threads and this is a common problem, the grinding. but this time there is no grinding at all. Which makes me think that, if there is a fuse for the antennae, the fuse is blown

For those who have re-installed factory antennaes, what kind of connections are there on the unit? is it jsut a female version of the antennae plug that plugs into the radio?

 

Crutchfield.com has generic motorized antennas for 60 bucks. You can get hidden antenna kits from Autoloc.com.

You typed all that and just could have said, "pissant".

 

I typed out a whole 2 1/2 short sentences. By the way, you missed an end bracket.

 

Mine didn't go up either and there was no grinding. I just took it out and cleaned up all the gears and lubed it up and now it works better than it did before. About 45mins - 1hr including figuring out how to take it out and re-installing it.

But then again if you don't even hear the motor going on it it could be dead or you should check your connector.

 

My shaft had a crimp in it and wouldn't go down....For some reason it broke off at around 120mph. Now there's just a plastic plug in the hole where the antennae use to be.
Engine sounds better than the radio anyway.

 

You could just replace the assembly with a new one. If the antenna is not extending and you don't hear the motor running, it is highly likely that the motor is burnt. I'm sure you could call Malloy Mazda tomorrow and price out a new assembly which consist of a new motor and a new mast. As for the S200 idea, that is pretty lame. Both of the cars you describe are honda. You could probably rig something up, but why? If your dad is that worried about saving money, maybe he should sell the RX-7 and buy a honda, too.

BTW: none of what I said is intended to be harsh, just straight-forward.

shaved mine off. I dont know anyone that listens to the radio any more. What with cd's, mp3's, serius, XM.

 

depends where you live. radio in southern california/LA is great but sucks in norcal and other places i've lived

 

Well I know he can afford to have it fixed. But I jsut think its a waste if its gonna break again. He has the money to spend on his Mazda as he sees fit. But sometimes I think its a waste. like paying trpoint to do his oil change. Granted there is assurance knowing someone else did it and is responsible. but I do mine all teh time and I save tons of money doing it.

But hey its his car and his money right? im was jsut entertaining the idea of a replacement that is worry and hassle free.

 

I understand your position. However, you do have to consider that this car is 13 years old. If he replaces it now, it should last for another 13 years with proper maintenance. The motors almost never quit, unless they have been abused. It is easy to break the mast. It's nothing but a metal rod with a plastic cord in the middle. The point is: If the mast does break, fix it before the broken pieces damage the motor because, the mast is not as expensive as the motor assembly.

 

Depends what you listen to... I lived in LA for 2 years and wouldn't even think of listening to the radio. Norcal had some great college stations.

 

Just buy a repalcement motorized antenna off ebay for $30 bucks.

 

If you still have the stock setup that's probably why you're getting decent or passable reception....the 2nd antenna embedded in the glass is picking up the signal. It's also a reason you might not feel the urgency to go to the trouble of installing a replacement mast.
