Another "WTB FD, need advice" thread!
Sorry I'm sure you guys get these kinds of threads all the time, I know we did over on the 240 boards. Bear with me though as I've been a long time enthusiast who's finally looking to get his feet wet with his first FD. Here's the car I'm looking at:
(from his advertisement)
300+whp tuned by KDR. Original engine, ACT clutch, Apexi Power FC, 4-850cc injectors, '99 Efini turbos, Greddy intercooler, 3" turbo-back exhaust, Blitz SUS power intake, Optima battery, Eibach springs, brakes just installed (Brembo slotted rotors, Hawk pads, stainless brake lines, master cylinder). Oil never changed past 2000 miles, never serviced by a hack mechanic, never driven in salt or snow, never tracked, garage kept. (not on the car) 18x8 Konig Crosshairs w/Falken FK452 tires with less than 1000 miles and a custom indoor Rx-7 cover. Toughest decision to let this go. New baby boy on the way...no room for baby seat.
I went to check out the car the other day and it is in very good condition with only a small ding on the driver's side door. The test drive was very positive. I did a lot of research into what I should be looking/listening for and it all felt a little too good.
Here's the kicker: there's 90k on the original engine. Am I being horribly naive in thinking this might not be a time bomb with a year or less on the current engine? Any input would be appreciated. I have a feeling that I'm getting a little too anxious to buy an FD and could use some objective advice.
Thanks in advance!

Any FD is a time bomb, regardless of miles or mods. That is why I read so many times that any FD owner should keep $4000 handy just in case the motor goes.
I would wonder why the owner modded the car so heavily just for a street car? Those are not insignificant upgrades, although not over the top by any means. What kind of boost was he tuned for? Lots of power, fuel, and boost, but what about cooling? If he used all that power a lot, I wonder since it appears he is still on the stock radiator?
Anyway, could be a great car. Keep in mind that there is no sure thing with an FD.

Thanks for the feedback!
This car wasn't his DD, he took it out maybe twice a month. He wasn't the original owner, carfax shows that he got the car in 2004 with 80,000 miles on it, so I know at least it was well maintained by him. He's running 15psi and he forgot to put in his ad that he's running a Koyo rad.
My big thing is that I won't have that extra 4k to throw around immediately after purchasing. I don't plan to track it until I do have the extra cash, but I will also be driving it (as conservatively as possible) at least 4 days a week. I've seen a few FDs on the west coast for sale with rebuilt engines, comparable mods, for the same price. Is 14k too high for this car?

Be wary. I got my compression results from Mazda on the receipt rather than the actual machine printout, but in any case simply verbal is not a great thing to rely on.
At 90k, you not only have to be concerned with the condition of the coolant seals, but also the compression.
