Another Tranny with 5 gear issues..
So I was out in the car the otherday with a friend taking it through the gears. As the road began to straighten out I hit the top of fourth, I went to shift to 5th and wow imagine that, it wouldent shift! It had done something similar to me before. It would shift fine then become very hard to shift any of the gears and almost impossible to shift into 5th. This only happend once and was never an issue again until the otherday.
So Today I went to see a guy about picking up a used tansmission I eneded up getting it for a decent price, or atleast I think. It was out of a bone stoke FD that was victim to a engine fire. At first I was worried about the fire maybe frying the seals and what not in the trans but the harness on top of the trans is barley melted so i dont suspect it has any internal heat damage.
Anyways I sapose my main question is there any way to tell what kind of shape it is in? I felt the imput shaft there seems to have very minimal play and It shifts smoothly, the internals look good with no chips of on the gears the sincros all have 45 degrees of angle on either side of the teeth and when I looked at the magnet on the drain plug there were no chunks on it. Is there anything else I can do to prevent my self from having the same issue besides rebuilding it?
Also as I went to back out of his driveway the car woud not shift into reverse. It would go in half way and then pop out and grind. I guess it was a sign haha! Anyways I hope that my issues are solved with this new tranny. or at least for a while until I cant aford a complete rebuild.

As far as I know good. It feels good and engages fine. But I have however knoticed that if I press the clutch peddel down just far enough that I can feel where it would start to engage and hold it there it will slowly keep going down without dissengaging the clutch if that makes any sence.
