Another reason why I hate people. (lets try this again)

Ok I just tried to post this like 3 times...stupid forum farts....anyways:

I've had this carbon fiber C-West front end on my car for just over two months...

Yesterday I went over to my gf's apartment. I always parallel park on the same street. I was parked on the corner & I noticed there was a rather large pickup truck parked in front of me, so I made sure to leave plenty of room between us (atleast 4 feet!)

An hour later, I leave my gf's apartment and walk out to my car to find this:

The ******* who was parallel parked in front of me decided to put his trailer hitch into my front bumper...then drove off without leaving a note or anything.

I doubt the repair on the car is going to be more than $500 (insurance deductible) , so I guess it's just going to come out of pocket. :\

I HATE PEOPLE

In other news...my M2 intake and new K&N's came today...

More pictures at http://gallery.tfrascone.net/m2intake/

Can't wait to put it on...but I realized I need to trim my aluminum radiator (it has those huge side fins on it...)

That sucks man, but I know how it feels, Had my car re painted and all the dents taken out and someon kicked two big dents in it. One by the drivers brake duct and right behind drivers rear wheel. Also been broken into 2wice in a year. I hardly ever drive the car anymore unless it's just joy riding where I don't leave it for more than 5 min at a time.

Heh, I know exactly what you mean, you can only immagine how would your car look after only few days here in NYC, only parking once in a while in the street.
I had my car painted last year, and its' due for bumper paint job already, and I pay 400 bux a month to park in a garage.

I would guess that late some night, something terrible is going to happen to the paint job on that truck. It's not a good neighborhood from what I hear, and hey, **** happens.

I'm way too scared to parallel park my car. People park by sound around here. The "crunch" means they've gone far enough.

Sorry about your car. Beware of the trolls on the board who will probably say you shouldn't have parked on the street. I've already had my encounter with them today

Don, not to say you shouldn't, but c'mon, any person w/ sound mind who cares about their FD enough will know that they're running a HUGE risk of getting their car damaged, broken into, or even straight up stolen if it's street parked.

I don't mean to sound like a snob, but just because you can afford to buy a nice car doesn't mean you can afford a nice car. I simply would not be able to keep my FD if I didn't have a garage to keep it at home, and a garage to park it at school/work. And the rare times I take it out and park it in public, I spend 10 min looking for a far, isolated, yet visible spot to ensure her safety. It's the least you can do IMO. Heck, I've even considered someone else's idea of carrying around collapsable cones, and setting 'em up around your car when you do have to park in public

If what I wrote above cannot be done, under extenuating circumstances, at LEAST do what Sikopathx said. I HAD to street park my car one day because the garage was undergoing renovation. Every 3 hours (when the meters expired) I'd run out, take down the license plates of the car in front and behind me, just in case. That's just being safe, because you know we live in a world of dumbass drivers

Yeah, the nerve of some people. You can't even get away with blaming everything on someone else these days.

Yea I know exactly how that feels.

Over the 3 years of ownership of the rex I've had sooo many insurance claims (all comprehensive). I used to drive my car to my work 5 minutes away (yea I'm lazy) and it seemed like something happened to my car everyday. My mentality is that I don't pay for comprehensive insurance for nothing, so I reported EVERYTHING (now I'm red flagged in their system ). Back to the point, after my car got keyed 2 years ago and I had it completely repainted. Since then I've put ~800 miles on my car. Only drive it during summer to friends places, or places where I know that nothing will happen. My point is that if you actually take your car out regularilly and enjoy it, then eventually things like this are gonna happen. There are just too many stupid, inconsiderate people out there. It really sucks that things like this seem to happen after having body work done. Good luck fixing the damage .

Last night we went downtown for a little relaxation and sitting outside of a little coffee joint we saw the same Honda Accord (around 1998) get hit literally 5 times within about 3 hours. It was across the street so we couldn't see if there was any damage. They were just love taps but still, the people had sufficient room and still backed into the poor car over and over. And only 2 of the people got out and even looked at the car to see if it was ok.

Then as we were leaving and getting into our own car, across the street was a 100k plus valeted SL55 or S600 type mercedes and a lesser, probably C class 4 door mercedes backed right into it bumping the front bumper before the dumb guy could get out of the spot and drive off.

In New York or probably other big cities I know this is common, and in Europe it is just how they park, everyone bumps to get into spots, but here in the US I have much more respect for other peoples vehicles. I don't understand it.

Don't even get my started on door dings!!!

its sucks what happened, but parking in the street behind a big *** truck with a tow hitch, sounds a little sketchy. Id try and find better parking, since the car is so nice.

Sorry to hear about your luck, some people just suck.

Keep an eye out around your girlfriend's place to see if the truck shows up again, then it's beating time

yeah i told her what the truck looked like, so if she sees it parked near her place again shes going to get the plates for me.

i mean, i care - but im not going to let it **** me off. **** happens and its just a car after all.

i NEVER park my car near people if i dont have to. ill park in the farthest space in any parking lot, then walk the rest of the way - even then people still decide to park next to me... :\ (come on, there are like a million empty spots in this lot and you have to park next to me with your huge white van? haha)

i don't drive it much on weekdays - i live next to my school so i walk to class. i keep my car covered & parked in my carport with the doors closed and padlocked.

i thought the guy had plenty of room to get out, he prob just didn't see my car in his mirrors since its so low. oh well, no big deal - it can be fixed. i was just annoyed that the bastard didnt even leave a note.

Unhappy

Sorry to hear about that.

The problem usually is that people mostly just don't give a F***. He probably never even knew that he backed into you (although he should have), and even if he did, he didn't care or he didn't have insurance or he didn't want his insurance to go up or any of a 1000 excuses to rationalize his actions.

weird, is it just me or that damage does not look like from a trailer hitch looks more like from a cutting wheel...Would'nt a trailer hitch leave a bigger mark than that and not a straigt cut...

Sorry to hear anyway...

Sorry about your car. Also, IMHO, it's a crap shoot. Park it in a lot and risk door dings or worse, or park it where you did.

that sucks. your car is really nice.

im guilty of hitting RX7s when i park. sometimes im dont pay attention when parking the cars on my driveway...

outside of the home, ive seen a lady tap my rear bumper just so she wouldnt block a driveway...hello i parked it in the spot that way so no one would park in front/behind me.
and a lady at work swung her suv door and smacked my passenger side mirror.

I know exactly how you feel. Ive gotten to the point where i dont even get bothered by the new door dings i get every other week. Ive got so many in the car i just laugh about it now. It sucks that people have to be soo damn inconsiderate to not take it easy around other cars. The way i feel is, i can either drive the car, enjoy it, and risk door dings, or i can pamper it, never park it anywhere, and barely ever drive it due to not wanting to park it somewhere. Either way i choose, im pretty much screwed. I would rather be able to enjoy the car. I just look to the future, and say, I'll get the whole car repainted and the dents removed in a couple years. But then again, i have always been about performance, and never really gave two ***** about the visuals of the car. The way I see it, i bought the car for me, not for other people. I guess thats the difference between an enthusiast and a sports car owner.

Adam
