Oh yeah, the pass side cooler was irrepairable, the driver side cooler and the line I didn't want to risk it.

Costs so far:
2 new Earl's coolers: $350
new line and fittings: $140
tow: $150

Plus whatever the cost of that underbody sheet metal fairing is.

My insurance deductible is $500, so not much point in making a claim. If it turns out the motor was damaged, I will be making a full claim and hoping for the best. But I pray to the rotary gods that the motor's fine. I've only driven the car about 4 months out of the past year and that is a brand new motor.

Definitely not so wealthy I don't care...especially not after my recent divorce....

Wow Josh!! That's a really nice belt! Is'nt it suppose to be around the pulley? All joking aside, that's some nasty ****! At least you found him before he started rotting. Found one in a customers car, lodged in the blower motor. That **** stunk up the entire shop!

Is there a reason why the oil lines are so long?

Also which model of cooler do you have? I've got a single stocker and summer just around the corner...

The lines are actually just as long as they need to be. If you installed the kit, you would see what I mean.

You don't need to upgrade beyond the stock single cooler for just street driving, although running the dual stock cooler setup would be good. I have the Rotary Extreme dual 25-row setup as I run several track events a year in above 85F heat (when the car is fricking running anyway).

what kind of undertray did you have? stock or fabbed shet metal? ust wondering if it would have done a whole lot in the 1st place. i've got a huge sheet of metal ready to be fabbed up to the frame.

Wow man, I feel sorry for you, that really sucks.

I feel your pain. I know we both finished our rebuilds a few weeks apart from each other. Two months after getting my car back (2 weeks after getting it tuned) my turbo **** the bed... 2.5 months and $800 later it just got back on the road (untuned for the new turbo of course). These cars are a curse sometimes .

Good luck

Stock. It would have done a lot. The rock would not have snagged the oil line. The stock plastic undertray is actually better than any other material for impact resistance. Sheet metal can be punched through, this isn't likely with plastic.

That sucks. How could you forget to put it back on? It's a pretty large part. I usually look around for spare parts before assuming any job is done.

I doubt you hurt your engine. Lesson learned

I was wondering the same...I thought maybe it was a special Rynberg "advanced technique"

Sorry (again) to hear about this Rynberg. I hope that's the extent of the damage, and it's just a "live and learn" situation. As others have said, while it sucks, it coulda been a LOT worse (coulda lost control of the car...etc). Hope you get her patched up and as good as new ASAP

When I first heard of this, I crossed my fingers for your engine as I know you've been down for a bit...and just got tuned (350rwhp seq...for those that didn't know ).

If your low oil light never came on, I don't think your pick up ever ran dry which is great news!!

Any chance you could run those oil lines high instead of low?

rynberg, I was wondering when you were gonna get around to posting this. Sorry man, that definitely sucks. Hopefully, everything will turn out alright for you.

Maybe some of the v-mount people who insist on going without an undertray will learn something...

The lines are right at the sway bar height. They are completely shielded by the undertray....when it's actually on the car!

I just think about what would have happened with a v-mount...most likely a completely trashed radiator and fans.

It's pretty low, but not excessively so. Front fenders are about 25" from the ground.

How would you clean snake parts from a motor? I mean, it isn't like cleaning dirt and grease, is it?

You have to clean it carefully with anti-venom. This can be found at most auto parts stores,

I was driving home one day from work and about 20min later I smelt something really bad, I thought it was in the air so I kept driving, then I though, maybe its my car, so I pulled over and noticed a bit of smoke comming from the engine bay, tried to see if there was a fire before popping the hood. Then I popped the hood and all this smoke came billowing out, I took a deep breath in.......smelt like burning wires and steak? What the heck, then I noticed a huge mangled Rat head staring back at me on my battery box, then guts everywhere else. I almost puked !!! Must have crawled in for a warm place to stay. I thought I cleaned the car well but, I kept smelling that dead rat for about a week, then I noticed it body, which I thought was gone, crammed just under that black brace that is just under the SMIC. So I had to fish that out, nasty, baked from Rotary heat. Didn't eat meat for months, seriously. Also, my undertray was on the car too.

Sorry to hear about the oil cooler and lines. That sucks. This is one of my fears, hitting something on the road. Good luck with the fix.

They usually have it right next to the snake oil.
