Another one down...another one up: Final chapter
I pick up my "new" 93 R1 with 6853 miles on it tomorrow. This worked out much better than I would have ever anticipated given the severity of the accident I was in two weeks ago. My insurance company settled my claim on my totaled 93 Touring with a check for $25,850 - enough for me to make the deal on the R1 a reality. I have learned alot about insurance companies and their policies in the 10 days that this drama has unfolded. Two days after they totaled the car they offered $19985. But by providing them receipts, the bill of sale and examples of what low-mileage FD's were being sold for - almost 6 grand was added. It also helped that I was able to get my dealer involved who just happened to have received the R1 the day I called. What was amazing was that I had not called him with the intention of getting another FD, rather to serve as an additional resource to establish the "real" value of the RX-7. Once the dealership got involved I was out of the negotiation loop. I did not here from the claim adjuster until they came up with the 26k. I had to call the dealership to get updates on what was being discussed!
Bottom line...all's well that ends well(or begins again in this case). Thanks to all of you that gave me suggestions along way.

Wow. Sounds nice! Any reason you look for the low-miles? Just curious because it's still 10 years old internally. That's AWEFULLY low mileage... But I'm sure the car is rock solid. I just don't understand how people can opwn this damn car for 10 years and NOT want to drive it. Mine doesn't even have a motor in it, and I STILL back it out of the garage and at least wash it!
How far is deerfield from STL??

As I have mentioned before, I am not a mechanic and the low miles afford me some reliability on the front end of the life of the car. The car that was totaled had 12500 miles on it when I purchased it last fall.
Deerfield is 25 miles north of Chicago on the Lake/Cook County border.
My insurance company is Allstate.

Congrats Cecil, sounds like you're getting an awesome car. Is it bone stock? What mods are you looking at doing, reliability wise?

The car is bone stock...sort of. The previous owner added an additional alarm system and a new muffler for a little growl. There is also a device with a plug attached to the battery which I haven't figured out yet.
As far as mods go, I plan to keep the car close to stock with the exception of the basic reliability suggestions(down pipe, temp and boost gauges, etc.) which I will do this year. Another "mod" will be to replace the 16" wheels with seventeens and some better rubber. Right now, however, I need to change all the fluids in the car and probably change the plugs. With only 6800 miles on a 10 year old car, I have no idea what the the former owner did while he was obviously not driving it. In that regard, I remember seeing a thread here about some of the issues involved with with getting a low-mileage car but can't seem to find it using the SEARCH. Does anyone out there have any experience with this?
I'll get some pics of the car up as soon as I get some time.
