Unhappy Another one bites the dust...

So i'm cruising home... nice and mellow. I got the tunes cranked, not driving fast. I change freeways, kick it down a gear or two and get on it a little on the onramp ... I instantly feel it doesn't pull like it should, and notice (gasp) the *cloud* I am laying down I get off it instantly.. about 2 seconds after I get off the throttle, I hear the add coolant/overheat buzzer. And the needle moved up on the stock temp gauge (ACK you KNOW thats bad) Shut the engine down and coasted to the side of the road.. Steam everywhere. As the main portion dissipates, I see the main source of steam coming from.. the turbo area? I put some water in the radiator( the rest of my sports bottle - no such luck), and walked a couple of miles to get a few gallons more, and as soon as I pour it in, I hear bubbling/boiling/percolating. At this point (2:15am) I give up and call the cavalry to save me. Damn I love my friends. I will look at it some tomorrow, but the coolant seals in the engine were bad, as I found out when I had the Koyo installed a few weeks ago. It was just a matter of time. So much for 20k on a Rotary Power rebuild. heh I have to convince HER the turbo went out and took the motor (and FMIC) with it =)

Blessing in disguise? To my heart and mind, yes... Now I can build it right.. But, believe it or not, the wallet and woman have a TOTALLY different viewpoint - go figure

BTW FYI My mods were exactly these:

On the car when I got it (1500 miles ago ): Front Pipe, K&N Drop In - evidence of many mods (removed before sale) discovered later

I added in the first 2 months of ownership - Stillen Rotors/pads/SS lines, Koyo Radiator, Thermal Flex Hoses, Cosmo Fuel pump, HKS Twin Power, Technosquare ECU, Blitz BOV, HID conversion
FAHK my wheels will be here in a few days too FAHK

And I thought I was being reasonable and taking it easy .. next time I mod it like a Supra, Downpipe and boost controller set to 400psi first thing At least ill have some fun

Hey bicuspid, you may have just blown the turbo coolant hose. It lets go without any warning. If the temp needle didnt peg, you may get a few more miles out of the engine.

I'd have to agree with toadman... I thought the worst when it happened to me, but it was only one of the hoses going to the turbos... if you take off the airpump and start pouring water in you'll probably see it pouring right back out of one of those hoses. PITA to change but much better/cheaper than the alternative...

Yeah I'd definitely check out the hoses man, you can't pour "a couple of gallons" through the internal coolant seals .
