Another oil consumption question
I've read the posts about FD's using oil, but I'm a little alarmed at the latest symptoms on my car. I had been putting about a quart of oil in per 3000 miles. Recently, and I can't think of anything that's changed other than the weather, I've had to put as much as half a quart in two days (maybe 300 miles worth of driving). What baffles me is that I had someone follow me, and it only smokes a little when it's cold (and had been sitting for two days), and then a small puff at redline when shifting. There's no leaks anywhere, the water just has water in it, and the oil is perfectly dark. The only other symptom is a white scum on the oil filler cap, and I think it smells a little like fuel? I don't see where all that oil could be going since I always thought it only took a very small amount of oil to make a lot of smoke. I'd think half a quart in 2 days would look like a smoke bomb.
Just curious if this is obvious symptoms of somthing that I need to start saving for, or if there's anything I need to do to keep this from getting worse....
The other thing that occured to me is that I had the oil changed and maybe they put the wrong weight in it by accident?
Thanks in advance

I would suggest changing your oil then check it daily on a flat piece of ground (same place every day) after its warmed up. You could be loosing oil in the turbo or too much via the metering pump, if you have all your pollution control on and working you shouldn't see much smoke except as you described. I get quite a cloud after a couple of days in the cold because of a leaky bearing in one of my turbos and the normal oil in the engine supplied by the metering pump. A quart in 3000 is not bad that's about what I consume of 10W-30. Good luck.

the white stuff are just condensations.
maybe your oilpan gasket is leaking? mine is leaking and i have to change oil around every 1000 miles.

Good! Condensation doesn't sound so bad. I knew baby crap color was coolant, but thankfully that's certainly not the case here. I just had never seen white before. If it weren't for that appearing at the same time consumption increased, I would feel pretty confident it's "just" my turbos, as they have 120k miles on them.
Thanks guys.

Thanks, I'll have to check that. Weird thing, I checked the oil again today and it hasn't burned any after 200 miles (where 1/2 a qt was gone last time after about that far). Crazy car.....
