Another New FD Guy

hey guys, my name is Ricky and I just signed up to these forums, id like to ask a few questions because I am currently looking for a black 93-95 5spd rx7. I have researched many manufacturers and products because once I find and buy my car, I am going to begin modding it right away. I have heard from many since rotaries can be complicated and fussy to get someone that knows about 13B's and rebuild the engine. That being the case I live in Nashville, TN and wondered if anyone nearby could help out a fellow FD guy. I am 16 and love cars. Although I probably will not be getting the car until near the end of this upcoming summer, I am going through many products seeing which I prefer. This is what I have so far, besides rebuilding the engine.

Apex'i Single Tip N1 Exhaust
Tein HA Coilover suspension
HKS Super SQV BOV (gotta love that sound)
Bonez High Flow Catalyctic Converter
Apex'i AVCR
Apex'i AFC II
and some exterior and interior things ive seen that caught my eye

Thanks Guys and hopefully i can be a regular on these forums

The first tip I have to offer is to make sure you use the search feature before posting any questions. The people can be harsh on newbies and reposts. 2nd people on the forum will most likely thrash on the fact that ur 16 and own an FD but you'll get used to that. 3rd other than that everyone is very friendly and always willing to help. By the way welcome.

I dont know how the AFC works with FD's. but theres defintly better routes to go. also tein suspension compared to JIC is like night and day. JIC is built better and tougher, check out www.rx7store.net the coilovers are only 1250.

but im getting ahead of the game. GL finding a rx7! I found a nice one locally. and btw.. im only 17.

Thanks, Ive searched and read many forums about the exhaust systems and engine parts and many others, just wanted to say hello

Oh and thanks ill check out the JIC products

Im pretty much a noob to rx7's being that ive researched and seen much information in a period of only 6 months, one thing that helps though is that my dad owned a 1986 rx7 for 6 years. he loved it

definitely read the newbie and FAQ and sticky threads WELL! and scratch every mod you have up there until you have every reliability mod done. Also you will get flamed majorly for wanting a BOV for how it sounds. But welcome to the forum!

An FD is not the place to start for a 16yr old.

id have to second this notion, unless your folks are backing you up with cash. you gotta pay to play when it comes to the FD.

c'mon, leave the guy alone, im 16 and own an FD...wait, yea, ricky, you might want reliability mods first. i blew my motor once already, i thought i new rotarys since my dad has owned one ever since i was born...
start with these mods first, then to performnace.
1)Turbo timer(if your lazy)
2)new radiator and preferably silicone hoses
3) a boost controller(get a GReddy Profec B and set it to 10psi.)
4)a boost gauge and oil press gauge.
am i missing anything?

oh , scatch , im sure that theres plenty of rich kids out there that have $$$ to spend on anything , but for me the best way to go was start with a new engine and just learn the car from the ground up from there on , hopefully ill be able to get 80k out of my engine now so that would be after college for me

Get a downpipe for the first mod and just drive the car. These cars are fast right out of the box.

What kind of car do you drive now? I wouldn't recommend an FD for someone with limited driving experience. I'd hate to see you wrap the car around a tree because the car was too much to handle.

What a 2nr!

Also, just so people stop getting this confused.
Your first mods should be:
downpipe
boost gauge
eliminated or aluminum AST

I'm more worried about you having D1 and 2nr in your name than I am about this being your first car.

Keep the car stock aside from the reliability mods, fix everything that's broken, and try to learn how to drive. That's all us supposedly old (or just older than you) folks can hope for.

However for a high school kid I would suggest a nice one of these:

The unfortunate reality is that someone at your age generally lacks the funding and ability to maintain an FD. Maybe if you already learned how to work on cars or your parents are financing this little project then you can turn it out alright but otherwise this "2nr" business is going to end in another messed up FD that someone else may or may not fix up.

But hey if you know your stuff around a garage and you just so happen to be sitting on a pile of cash, then go right ahead. Have fun convincing your parents to buy you a swoopy little sports car.

*edit* Having read my post, it looks a little harsh. Sorry to come off that way. But yeah unless you have a pile of cash and are reasonably proficient at fixing cars then I would say it's better for you to start with a less complex car that is easier to drive and work your way up. You'll like the FD more that way when you do finally end up getting it. Besides, how the hell can a 16 year old afford the insurance on one of these things?

Please worry about reliability mods, and learning how to drive the car before you worry about making it faster. Have you even driven, or been in an FD before?

Once you crash one you'll see why everyone is telling you to "learn how to drive one".

Once you blow up your engine, you'll see why everyone is telling you "reliability first".

If you can afford an FD at 16, you are a lucky kid. Just do it right and take advantage of how lucky you truely are.

owning a FD really isnt all that hard if people just take damn care of it , everyone is always like "top dollar" blah blah blah , but if you keep your car well maintained you wont have problems. If you dont know **** about cars then yea you'll be spending $$ on having someone else do stuff for you. And obviously if you have a single turbo setup or something then you should have enough damn money to pay for insurance. as long as your hardworking and can work on cars you should be able to own a FD regardless of age. If your cheap with your car then dont buy a FD in the first place. just my .02

hah i feel like ive kinda been repeatin myself but its ok

FIRST MODS:
RELIABILITY ex. downpipe, gauges, maintaining engine, silicone hoses

GET CAR FIRST AND LEARN TO DRIVE

lol and as i said in another forum, id kill myself before I drive a civic

and with the money, I am a hardworker and will pay off most of it, I also am lucky enough to have parents that are financially supportive

1 more thing, i sense a lotta sarcasm and doubt and anger from u guys for seein another new guy, im sorry if i wasted ur time by postin something, and I know you are just tryin to help and i understand what I have to do now, and I can tell since ive been searchin these forums for the past couple of days that you guys have dealt with a lot of newbies, but take it a little easier, im not a newbie with other cars, so im not dickin around tryin to be cool modding it, and lol ive gotten a "welcome to the forums" from like 2 people, cmon guys its a public forum for people to talk about rx7's, not a bashing arena for newbies
